A bit of a step into the unknown for me but it was time to add some more Allies to my British force. My blog this week shows my cunning plan to paint a unit for a forthcoming game.

We simply must see more pictures of the final result. The link does not show your finished work yet, but, despite your reservations, I think the shade of green looks just right for these gents. That piping is so well done too……

I painted the same figures some years ago and had the same questions. Mine are a little less bright but yours are very nicely done. I think you have to decide what works for you. My painting scheme can be found here. link

Not the best photography I am afraid.

Is that not a fascinating contrast?

Arcane Steve has perfectly captured how the green Nassau troops are always shown (and imagined by me). J de TN has shown what actually looks highly realistic, if a bit subdued.

Thanks to both……..

I am ashamed to admit this, but I never can work out which were in Netherlands blue and which in Nassau green. I always thought the chaps in blue were down in Papelotte/Smohain etc and the chaps in green up on the ridge West of the crossroads, but somehow had never actually checked that.

Nice job on the Nassauers Steve.

From Adkin's Waterloo Companion:
The 28th Orange-Nassau were in blue. The 1st bn. occupied Frichermont and Smohain, The 2nd bn. was in La Haie and along the road eastward.
The 2nd Regt. Nassau wore green with the Lt. Co. of the 3rd bn. in Papelotte, the remainder of 3rd bn. and 2nd bn. on the ridge above Papelotte, the 1st bn. was in Hougoumont.

The 3 bns. of 1st regt. Nassau also in green were in the 2nd line northwest of La Haie Sainte.

I am now going to write this down……….because in half an hour I will be just as confused yet again.

I can now see why I was though. They really were scattered about. Could imagine their high command being a bit cross at that, but many thanks again.

Hi All, thank you for your kind comments and feedback. I have been away for a week in Amsterdam on holiday. As a side issue, it was very difficult to find any books or info on Dutch – Belgian role at Waterloo. Despite visiting 4 large bookstores and the Rijks Museum, there was very little that I could find on the subject. They seem to be somewhat obsessed with WW2, no doubt for good reason.
But just to say my delayed blog with painting details should be ready for this Thursday.
