All,
Okay, I've decided on visiting Scottsdale and Tombstone in mid-late October. I'll be flying to Scottsdale from New Jersey. Question now, is how many days should I plan on? Is it a day in each town or more?

Tombstone is going to be about 2.5 to 3.5 hours from Scottsdale (or more if you try rush hour). I would guess you need a day for Tombstone. The town isn't that big.

As for how many days in Scottsdale, it depends on what you are looking to do. Scottsdale boarders Phoenix, Tempe, Paradise Valley and Carefree, and is very long (North to South). From the South Scottsdale border to the north boarder is going to be about a hour (20 minutes for half the distance via freeway, 40 minutes via surface street. And that's without traffic. The Scottsdale airport (if that is truly where you are arriving) is roughly half way, but most of the city is to the south of the airport.

There is maybe one game store in Scottsdale, up North, and it's just a GW game store. Two Game stores in the Scottsdale/Phoenix area not to be missed is Game Depot in Tempe, and Imperial Outpost in Phoenix.

just take your time and enjoy. Late October is a good time weatherwise better than the Late July I experienced last time

When you go to Tombstone, you could also try to visit Fort Huachuca which is still an active Army base but was also very active during the post Civil War actions against the Southwestern Indians. They are across a valley from each other and could be done in the same day.
