As to your blog comment about the heraldry; I don't think the martlet's a cadency mark, I think it's just part of the arms. If it were cadency, the family arms would just be the arms of St George, which seems unlikely (though not impossible). Andrew's father Sir Michael was dead by 1309 (at least according to the DNB, cited at
link ) so if Andrew were the first son he'd have dropped the label anyway after that.

And I'm open to correction, but I don't think the martlet was even used as a cadency mark this early. According to link "The first regular appearance of the modern system is on the effigies of seven Beauchamp cadets in St Mary's windows at Warwick. There the label, annulet, crescent, martlet, fleur-de-lys, and mullet indicate the several cadets" – and as far as I can make out, that is later 14th century.
