To be called 'Hats Off !', the purpose of which would be to recognize outstanding accomplishment especially where the saving of lives in extreme circumstances was involved. The two most outstanding circumstances which come to my mind are 'Sully' Sullenberger's 'dead stick' water landing in the Hudson river and Tammie Jo Shult's successful landing of her 'single-engined' Boeing 737 after an engine exploded. Each was a fighter pilot, Sullenberger having gone 'downtown' many times during the Viet Nam War and Shults being the first woman to fly the Navy's F/A-18 Hornet |

I think that it should be limited to recognizing miniatures gamers who have contributed to saving lives, whether in game or not. Thus the WW2 Pacific theater player who devotes two soldiers from his squad to carry their wounded lieutenant back to the beach for pickup would be recognized,* as would gamers at a convention who take care of a heart attack victim until the paramedics arrive. *Bonus for identifying the source material. |

Good idea, Ed. TO separate it from the hobby folks or tabletop heroes, probably best to put it in the TMP plus section. Young woman did quite a job landing with that one engine. Know it sounds chauvinistic, but the thought of female fighter pilots is pretty impressive. Some of these young servicewomen have performed feats to rival some of the "old corps" aces and fliers. |

Ed I no longer 'do' polls, so I don't care either way. :) Dan |

Honestly, how often would this board see new topics posted? I sincerely hope less than once in 20 years. I understand the intent, but with new topics appearing 5+ years apart, realistically, I don't see the value of it. With regards to gamers acting heroically at a convention, I do not see this as being a frequent topic which will pop up with enough regularity to justify a board, either. The sentiment is commendable, but a board is not realistic, IMO. Cheers! |

I avoid the TMP Plus ghetto. Keep it under General. Anyone who disapproves can turn it off. |

Sgt Slag – I have lots of LEO relatives. Also a few EMTs in the bunch. Somewhere in this country, EVERY DAY, a LEO, a firefighter or an EMT saves a life – or lives. Maybe all three do. Recently, in our small crossroads community in NC an off-duty sheriff's deputy came upon a minor accident and noticed the driver (single vehicle) was in distress. He administered CPR and called for EMTs while doing so. The driver was suffering a heart attack but was saved due to the deputy's actions. We read a great deal about LEOs shooting folks, sometimes justifiably, sometimes allegedly not, sometimes we don't know. I just think it'd be nice to have a place where, were we as a community so inclined, we could recognize and laud the folks who save rather than take lives in the performance of their jobs. I respect your right to have a very different opinion. |

Well, I was going to ask if this list could include the two Sheriffs Deputies murdered in Gilchrist County, Florida. So I started to search "two off" and a drop down filled in "two officers killed". Right away, and apparently I have a choice of two officers. I don't like this thread. I going to log off, and go for a walk. |
