This game was set in our Caluphel Prime campaign setting — specifically, the as-yet-unexplored area known as the Hive Terror Spawning Pits, in the southeastern quadrant of the planetary map. Back when we were developing this campaign setting, I knew Paul was planning a Tyranid army, so I dropped an enigmatic location on the map that hinted at what was to come. I'm pleased that we're now able to give the Spawning Pits a proper tabletop treatment!

This turned out to be the *most colorful* game of 40k I've ever played!

And when I say colorful, I mean COLORFUL:

I love colorful sci-fi terrain.

Now that is a great looking game. Two super well painted armies squaring off on interesting terrain. Thank you for posting the AAR.

I've always liked the idea of 'nids vs. Chaos as it seemed like the one might corrupt the other and it wasn't clear which. The 'nids can't exactly be affected by chaos in some sense as they cast a shadow in the warp and seemingly are immune to the corrupting effects.

At the same time they are still vulnerable to blight grenades and other Nurgly attacks, so while they might not fall to Chaos in a certain sense, being entirely biological the plague of Nurgle, while challenged by a very hostile and mutable DNA, might make some inroads if they were sufficiently purulent.

Thanks for the comments. It's always somewhat refreshing to have a game of 40k that doesn't involve any Imperial factions. It's a big galaxy out there!

One of my favorite match ups in 2nd edition was Chaos and Orks. The Orks were such a screwy force and chaos was so . . . chaos. It was always a good time.

I did a big game of World Eaters vs. Orks at a convention a few years back. The Orks eventually overcame the World Eaters but there were a lot of dead Orks.
