If you think Battle of the Bulge is the worst WW2 film ever, then you have never seen Miracle at Saint Anna! |

Loved and drooled all over The Rat Patrol as a kid. I even bought and built the Aurora model kit and still have some of the bits and pieces floating around somewhere. Anyway, they used an eclectic mix of vehicles in the various episodes. I could forgive Rat Patrol using US armored cars and Dodge Power Wagons for German vehicles. But what really gave me a laugh was a Rat Patrol coloring book I saw one time that had a drawing of an M-3 Grant with the label "heavy German tank". Of course (I almost wrote "granted"!) the Germans could have used a captured Grant, but it would not have cost the company one cent more to draw a real German heavy tank in a coloring book. Maybe (?) there was actually an episode in which they used a Grant. Can't imagine where they would have found it. If there was such an episode I never saw it. On the other hand, I only got to watch Rat Patrol for the 1967-68 school year because the other years I was in boarding school and we were in night study hall when Rat Patrol was on. |

No, they never used a Grant. An M4 and and M7, yes. But I give the colouring books a gold star for the M3! Fits perfectly, the show never would have used a real German tank! link Also, obligatory pedantry regarding earlier comments on the [awesome] show. There is indeed lots of firing of machine guns and throwing of hand-grenades at the Germans, but they never destroy tanks with them. The combat scenes are all very plausible. The story writing is quite well done. I picked up the DVDs for seasaon 1, and maybe 2, some years ago and they hold up quite well. Should look into getting the others now…. Hmm, the perennial foes would make this a fun set-up for playing 7TV and modelling the fake German equipment =^,^= |
