… at Lady Stoneheart's Exclusion From Game of Thrones "George R.R. Martin has two strong consistencies in his professional life. One is writing infuriatingly mouthwatering food descriptions. The other is repeatedly reminding the world that he's still not over Game of Thrones cutting one of his favorite characters from the novels: Lady Stoneheart. Stoneheart—the resurrected, undead form of Catelyn Stark who, in Martin's books, becomes the vengeful leader of the Brotherhood Without Banners, turning them into a bloodthirsty force enacting executions across the Riverlands for criminals she perceives as having aided the Lannisters enact the infamous Red Wedding—should have shown up by around Game of Thrones' fourth season in 2014. But she didn't, and despite constant fan speculation about her arrival, she has yet to show up even as the HBO series barrels along to its conclusion…" Main page link Amicalement Armand

Do the books even matter anymore?* The show is clearly making additions, omissions and other revisions on its own without following his vision or timeline. I just wish he'd stop wearing those silly hats. :) Dan * If not, then perhaps he should move on to write about whatever the hell he feels like writing about at this late stage in his life. |

It's been year since I read the books (waiting for something new) but wasn't she only in it for like 1 page? Hardly a pivotal character after she died. Gotta agree with the others. Until he actually finishes publishing something I'm not so interested in his complaints. Maybe if we had the next book(s) we'd see why she needs to be included. |

The books matter and in 20 years will be what's remembered (by then the "screen" version will have 3 reboots). Catlyen is a complex POV character in the books – that rarest of concepts a realistic medieval female character. Hastily recast (and miscast) in the HBO version, until the Red Wedding she did not have the same impact as in the books (in the books she and Sansa are near look alikes hence Littlefingers obsession with both). Martin with his keen eye toward twisttinng fantasy/fairy tale tropes,, now intends too make her the "wicked witch" almost always aa fallen beauty. Too literary for Dan & Dan but it will be interesting to see where Martin goes with her. TomT |
