I need to call upon the collective knowledge of the TMP mind. In the War of the Roses ruleset Bloody Barons (by Peter Pig), there is a requirement for disorder markers. According to the text they are "single figures mounted on a coin which are either waving their arms or drinking." I checked Perry, Reaper, etc. and can't find anything that would work in 28mm. Does anyone know of a range that might work? I can do a little bit of greenstuff conversion if there is a figure that is close. The Drunk Knights (1/72) from Valdemar are what I need… if only they were 28mm! Thanks in advance for your help! Jeff |

These guys are a little late in period, but the guy on the far right might have possibilities: link |

Hey! Those Artizan Landsknecht Looters figures have possibilities! Thank you! I wonder if there are any more like those out there? Keep the good ideas coming! |

If you're prepared to do a bit modification work there are a couple of figures in Wargames Foundry WotR range (Characters & Artillery Crew sets) but you'll have a lot of leftover figures – but maybe they'll blend in with your other figures for more conventional uses. |
SquadPainter | 13 Apr 2018 11:11 a.m. PST |
Hmmm… you're right, BillyNM. Those are suitable miniatures that might do the trick. The Foundry Artillery Crew seems to be my best bet. This is fantastic and a HUGE help. Please keep the suggestions coming! |

Warlord do casualties and looters in their Landsknecht range, look under the Horse & Musket section. Some of them might work depending on the costume. |

Foundry have a WoTR archer drinking (1st one in this picture) link |

Perry plastics should do. |

Vigilant, those Warlord Landsknecht looters might work. I'd have to do some filing and greenstuff work. But they are pretty close! Jeff |
SquadPainter | 13 Apr 2018 1:57 p.m. PST |
Whoa, good eyes Huscarle. I actually looked at those Foundry archers and missed that lone figure. If I could just get 15 of them. Ha ha! Big thanks for finding that! Jeff |
SquadPainter | 13 Apr 2018 1:59 p.m. PST |
Hi Advocate! I'll definitely leverage Perry plastics for conversions. Plastic makes it easy. Maybe some head swaps onto some other line of figures to remove the floppy hats? Ha ha! This has been a great help! If there are any more, please let me know!! Jeff |
ancientsgamer | 13 Apr 2018 10:29 p.m. PST |
I would look at fantasy ranges. |
SquadPainter | 15 Apr 2018 6:29 a.m. PST |
Hi AncientsGamer! Looking at fantasy ranges is a good idea. I've looked through Reaper already using their figure finder system. Unfortunately I've only been able to find pirates holding bottles. If you know of any other fantasy lines that have a 28mm figure "either waving their arms or drinking" that could be from the WotRs period, let me know! Thanks!! Jeff |

Sorry to be answering a bit late (I already read this message two days ago), but I do have some more suggestions. 1.) Foundry set "Swiss characters" has an excellent late 15th century crossbowman drinking from a mug that should work perfectly if you are OK with his armament (replacing the crossbow with another weapon would require quite extensive work, since it is in contact with his leg and body). Furthermore, there is also a model of a woman pouring a drink from jug to mug, which should work fine. link 2.) There were already a couple of suggestions for drinking Landsknechts, but there is a one included in one of the Foundry artillery packs, with a tankard and loading tool that could be converted into a polearm. link 3.) Front Rank range of medieval equipment contains a pack of jugs and pots (EQ77). These could be used to convert figures that come with open hands (eg. many pikemen) though they are a bit on the pricy side. link |

Continuing with my list after a break. 4.) Crusader miniatures pack of unarmoured late 15th century pikemen has several pretty lazy looking figures that should work fine if they would have jugs, mugs or bottles added to their open hands. link 5.) Similarly, most of the Perry WotR standing billmen could be converted into drinkers by replacing the separate bills with suitable drinking instruments. link 6.) Perry WotR labourers pack contains a man carrying a big jug. link 7.) Perry WotR wine cart has another man with a jug. link 8.) Perry WotR casualties pack includes a man waving arms and falling backwards, with an arrow in his chest. link 9.) This Perry pack of early 15th century peasants has a couple of figures that could be considered as waving their arms (especially if you bend the arms a bit). They may stand a bit out from WotR figures, though. link |

Griefbringer, You, sir, are brilliant! Suggestion #5 is inspired. Those Perry figures could easily be tilted on their bases (as if they were tacking into the wind) with a number of Foundry jugs, mugs, and greenstuff goblets added. So easy! No serious conversion work required. It's so simple. Why didn't I think of it?!? Suggestion #8 is solid as well; three of the six casualty figures could quickly go from wounded to disordered/inebriated with a few mugs and jugs here and there. The arrow protruding from that one figure's chest could be snipped and then the figure could be bent to a more upright posture to look like he's waving his hands about. You have provided me with great inspiration! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Jeff |

Inspired by Griefbringer's suggestions, I did a quick search for 28mm goblets to see if I could find something less expensive than Front Rank's offerings. link £2.25 GBP for 5 sprues of bottles, complete with one on a serving tray, and a small keg of ale. That's 5 goblets, 10 tankards, and 15 bottles… and 5 kegs! What a deal! |
Griefbringer | 16 Apr 2018 7:59 a.m. PST |
That Scotia Grendel bottle set looks like pretty decent value for price. I have also somewhere a bunch of small bottles that came with an alchemist laboratory equipment set that I bought years ago, but that one has probably been out of production for many years. If normal bottles and kegs are not large enough, you could also try using barrels – available from a number of manufacturers in various sizes (Renedra makes a plastic sprue with 5 small and 5 big barrels). As for using casualty figures as inebriated, please notice that the Perry two wheeled common cart comes with a couple of (separate) wounded passengers that could also look like they have had a drink too many: link The empty cart could then be loaded with spare barrels (filled with wine, beer, arrows, herrings, gunpowder etc.) and used as an objective. |
SquadPainter | 17 Apr 2018 7:18 a.m. PST |
Griefbringer, Oh, that Perry cart idea is a good one. You are right: the cart riders do appear to be either injured, or pickled. I also like the idea of putting the kegs from the Scotia Grendel Bottle Set into the back of the cart for an objective. That's clever! Thank you very much for your suggestions. I appreciate them!! If you have any more, keep them coming! Jeff |

Well, I think I have run out of ideas for the later 15th century, but you should already have enough options to get started. I guess I am not the only one who would be interested in seeing the results once you have your models put together. That said, if anybody wants to do the same for 14th century, there is a drinking man in the Foundry HYW looters pack, and another one in the Old Glory looting revolting peasants set. |

Griefbringer, It will take me a bit to get those figures procured, primed, and painted, but I'll post when I do. If you want to see my efforts on the War of the Roses so far, check out my blog here: link You'll see an AAR, and two ways to paint archers: base-dip-highlight and zenithal primed with thin washes. Click the labels on the right to see other periods, or just the SquadPainter title to view everything.
Thank you again for all of your help. I'm definitely starting off on the right foot with these figures thanks to you! Jeff |
