The current Front Rank Jacobite range is very nice. But they are quite well fed. Years ago back in the 90s I got a random collection of Jacobite figures from a flea market. Most were old style Front Rank figures, "first edition"? They were much slimmer than the current lads and looked like a different range. I like them a lot and wish I could get more. The only problem we're the Lochaber axe figures, which were very fragile. Are these available anywhere? |

I suspect that it will be strictly flea markets and second hand. The newer range was designed to specifically replace them. They were the first range FR produced but I agree with you – they were great. And at the time their Irish Picket counterparts were the only larger sized WAS/SYW figures available – other than Hinchliffe who of course had no French. I remember the delight in building a French army from them. Have you noticed that all the Jacobites are left handed? Must be Kerrs! Good luck with your quest |

My Jacobite "army" is a ragged lot. As they should be. I just get a bunch of figures from different companies and base them singly on washers. I almost fell into the trap of having closely defined clan tartans. Then I saw a Canadian stamp commemorating something or other, and each figure had three different patterns on him! I read something that vaguely hinted that one faction had bluish patterns, another had reddish and so on. That's not enough to go on. This does make it take longer to paint, but I had enough to do a smallish game a few weeks ago. Finally. Now it's just a matter of finishing bunches, instead of an army. I still hate diced hose. |

Not Front Rank "first edition," but I've been tempted to plunge into the 1745 with the 28mm figures from Alternative Armies. link Free Shipping this weekend. link |

FR also used to make a 25mm ACW range of figures that were decent and I think that they also made a small range of 15mm figures as well. |

Winston – If you're looking for different sculpting styles, these might be of interest to you:- cranntaraminiatures.co.uk link And these are a new venture from Flags of War:- link About 1/3 of the way down the page are two very handy comparison photos, from which you can see that the new range will be chunky, but not as chunky as Galloping Major or some of the new Foundry WAS/SYW stuff. Regarding "clan tartams": the modern versions are definitely Victorian designs, however, there is some evidence that, as each clan either owned its own weaving mill(s) or purchased all their cloth from a single mill, or a few mills, that certain colours/designs would have been common to that clan at any given time. Totally with you on diced hose. All my AWI Jocks are in overalls. |

Strictly speaking the "modern" tartans were a Regency or Georgian invention given a huge boost by the Prince Regent's – then George IV's – visit to Scotland. It grew from there. Ironically one of the main driving forces was the inventiveness of two Polish brothers…. but that is another story… |

Very timely thread.. I want to get a Jacobite army in 28mm, and I was thinking of Front Rank or the new Kickstarter.. What are peoples thoughts on scale, sculpts? Having considered both, I was more now leaning towards Front Rank |

The 15mm chaps were ACW, I still have mine, an army box worth, all based up for F&F, don't think I've played with them more than twice… :( |

I also have some of the 15mm ACW chaps, based for F&F. The range was sold off by FR, but I cannot recall who sells them now. |
