The Battle of Karansebes (1788) has gone down in legend as just such a battle. Modern scholars have questioned whether the battle even happened, but whether or not it did, it tells us a lot both about the Austro-Turkish war and about the way we view military history…." I must admit I believed this "battle" was a myth, invented by some XIX century writer, but now Wikipedia has links to contemporary sources, including Austrian ones like the Trieste gazette and the incident is indeed described (tough sugar-coated) |
