"The American army of the Northwest began to group together northward to prepare the attack of Canada. The objective of the Americans consisted in seizing the region around the big lakes and in cutting the communications between the Bottom and Upper Canada. Lieutenant governor Isaac Brock had already taken the measures well before the release of the conflict, he had called the militia under weapons, prepared and pre-positioned some of his strengths and especially he had in project to strike the first one. To this end he used his agents of the department of the Indian business and his network of piece of information. One of them, Robert Dickson, storekeeper in fur was very respected of the Indians of the Northwest and had patiently weaved long-lasting links with the latter. Thanks to him, the English people were capable of counting contingents of warriors Sioux, Winnebagos, and Menominee in their row for their future attacks. One of the targets that Brock intended to attack was the American outpost which he considered the most isolated and thus maybe even in the ignorance of the beginning of the war: strong Mackinac.
