Raul,

Good to have you back.

And, yes, people like this exist all over. We were scammed the same way 3-4 years ago.

" I am considering legal action, however, since the amount is 'small' it may not brig this thief to justice in the near future."

Still, wouldn't hurt to report him to his state's DA office. 480E may not be 'small' to them…

The Federal Bureau of Investigation deals with computer crime generally and wire fraud specifically. It's probably worth reporting to them, even if they don't do anything other than take the report.

The Florida Attorney General is probably interested in fraudulent schemes, although I don't see a cybercrime unit in my quick review of that office's web page:

If you know the county where the criminal is located, you can contact that county's district attorney and make a report. The DA may refer you to a local police department. You have the delivery address, which will tell you the city, town, or other municipality. A quick internet search should tell you the county in which that municipality is located.

I wish I had known about contacting the DA office. I was scammed out of several hundreds of pounds about 10 years ago when I first started using eBay and I decided to buy a FOW army 'painted to order' from a guy in the States. After waiting a month which I was told would be how long it took to paint the items I heard nothing.Attempts to contact him were fruitless, until after about 2 months he replied that he had been ill with kidney stones or something and was busy painting them. This went on for several weeks with me being fobbed off until I gave up. Needless to say I'd made the mistake of paying up front for the lot.Paypal were no use, likewise eBay. I was very green in those days about buying on the internet. Taking individual people you don't know to be completely trustworthy and honest is unfortunately not the way to proceed.

The legal powers that be are still a bit behind the power curve when it comes to cyber crimes. But they are getting better at it. Like much new Tech, there is a learning curve.

But in many cases, you can't prosecute those from a foreign country trying to get your data, etc., on the web. Or even on very old tech, i.e. – the telephone.

Regardless it maybe worth reporting …
