If anyone has played both, I wouldn't mind hearing the ups & downs or these. I have played Sharp Practice, but not the ECW variations. I have not played Pikeman's Lament but have read the rules. Seems very simple. But would it get dull? Love to hear thoughts.

Never played Sharp Practice, but did play quite a few games of Pikeman's Lament before I moved house. Certainly never got boring. We usually played multiplayer (4 to 6 players) which adds to the uncertainty and so enjoyment. Not a game for the ECW purist, but great for a fun evening's gaming.

Have yet to play Sharp Practice, but like steamingdave we play Pikeman's Lament every 6 weeks. Also 4-8 players usually.
Very fun and enjoyable. You really get a feel for the difference between chargers and trotters, But dave pegged it, not for the ECW purist.

I've played both versions of Sharp Practice…which one you referring to?

Have played Lament with multiple companies per side, recently did Naseby. Rules are a good toolbox so if you follow the theme you can houserule what you want. Also a forum for questions. While personally I'd prefer rules specific for ECW these rules are great for good casual pickup games. Many run mini campaigns.

redmist1122 I was thinking Sharply Buff. I was aware there was another version but haven't actually read it. Assumed that since Sharply Buff was a published variant, it was the more 'Lard approved'. But I'd like to hear your thoughts.

Have played both, but not SP pike and shot. You could happily play both, they have a different focus

As noted, PL is good for a quick game and learning the rules is very easy
