6 probably. I'm more in to the hobby for the creative and game bits. I only read the history I need to paint my models and give the game context.

10 for sure
Drives my wife nuts that I pick apart historical errors in movies or TV shows. I openly laughed in the theater once.

I think the toy soldiers came first, then reading in first grade. With history a bit further down the road.

Although the rulesets, models (Airfix, etc.) and miniatures didn't arrive until college (boardgames a bit earlier).

So chicken or egg as to what sparked what.

At any rate, a 10.

So much stating of the obvious.Since I am bored by history, maybe I should get back to my game of Talavera or should I re-fight Stanford Bridge instead?.

This is opposed to alleged historians love of history!

As a retired history teacher with 28 years of service and a BA in History, I can tell you that there is no number I can place on it. History was, is and will be my life.

I think the toy soldiers came first, then reading in first grade. With history a bit further down the road.

That sounds about right for me too.

The wargame, however imperfect it may be in its execution of the task, is essentially a tool for us to experience a moment of past history that is important to us. Without the foundation of history, there is no such thing as "historical wargaming"; we would all be playing dominoes or bridge.
