Frederick – even as a solo player, that surprised me! One way of thinking about solo wargaming is as an exercise as game theory against yourself (obviously depending upon what form of solo wargaming is being done). Having spent a few months complaining about the relative weakness of the Swedish/"Galloper"-trained Horse when charging at roughly equal odds, I had sort of discounted it as a tactic. But because Derby was probably going to lose if he fought according to the odds, then it suddenly became clear to me that he had to gamble at sub-optimal odds to have, overall, the best chance of succeeding in the battle.
