If we allow Xmas greetings we have to allow Easter, regardless of our own personal opinions and beliefs. Or we request a rigid imposition of the rules for everyone. |
Legion 4 | 01 Apr 2018 9:18 a.m. PST |
Agreed Ritter … And to add some context to Fredrick's post … Pysanka is a specific term used for the practice of Easter egg painting. From the very early times, egg has been considered the most important symbol of rebirth. The initial baskets of Easter were given the appearance of bird's nests. The maiden chocolate eggs recipes were made in Europe in the nineteenth century. Each year witnesses the making of nearly 90 million chocolate bunnies. |

It may be more of an American tradition? I've not heard it before in Britain. People seem to just go for a "happy Easter" over here! I'm not wanting to stop anyone practising whatever religion they choose, but the wording seems a bit 'full on' for someone on this side of the ocean! To be honest, I was more miffed that a simple innocuous question was deleted! |

To be honest, I was more miffed that a simple innocuous question was deleted! It can be hard to discern when a question is meant sincerely or as an act of harassment. The "no religion" rule is intended to discourage TMP members from using the main forum as a place to proselyte for any particular religion or to harass believers (or non-believers). However, I think that people simply wanting to share their happiness at Easter is allowable. They mean no harm, and they are not proselyting anyone. A few people have been intolerant. Editor Gwen will talk to them. She understands how to be tolerant of other religions. |
deephorse | 01 Apr 2018 11:11 a.m. PST |
I take it from all the deletions that this is not falling foul of the No Religion rule? |

Thanks Bill. It seems that it is another of those odd differences between the US and UK that cause some confusion! It would be nice, I think, if this thread can be used as a learning experience for everyone who has contributed… |

Happy Easter from me too. Easter is far more meaningful to Christians than, say, Christmas, as its really what our Faith is all about. Happy Passover to our Jewish friends too! |

ZOC: "It is the first time in his lifetime that Easter and April Fool's Day lined up together." I think that, until sunset, this is the first time in a long while that Passover, Western Christianity's Easter and April Fools have all overlapped the same day. I think Eastern Orthodox Christians have theirs next Sunday. Can anyone confirm? Dan |

Dan: "Wow, that's incredible. Is there anything else it coincided with?" Yes, was thinking the same thing as I read through this thread. Really cool. If only we could all (Believers and Non) line up our lives like we lined up our calendars… |

A happy Easter and Passover for those of us who honor these holidays. Both holidays celebrate a freedom from slavery, and a new life. No intent to convert any who do not choose to believe, just wishing fellow believers a good day about a subject important to us. |

Both holidays celebrate a freedom from slavery, and a new life. Yes historically many came to the New World to avoid religious persecution and have religious freedom. That's a fact of history … For better or worse … No intent to convert any who do not choose to believe, just wishing fellow believers a good day about a subject important to us. Agreed … but as we see, some intolerance may/still exists in appears. E.g. : A few people have been intolerant. Editor Gwen will talk to them. She understands how to be tolerant of other religions. BTW … "Wow, that's incredible. Is there anything else it coincided with? It'd be my Mother's 100th Birthday if she had not passed. I think it was just another excuse for my sister to buy a cake ! |
