Help! I have someone who I am painting 15mm ECW figures for. He wants them based for DBX rules. How many figures per base( cav/ Inf/ arty) and how big are the bases? Since I paint but do not game I am lost in this respect. Thanks |

Foot: 40mm x 20mm Mounted: 40mm x 30mm Dragoons and artillery: 40mm x 40mm Figures per base. Shot, pike are 4 per base. Forlorn hope (skirmishers) are 2 per base Cavalry are 3 per base, however, some variants place Cuirassiers and pistols at 4 per base. Dragoons can have 3 or 4 foot with one mounted or standing horse. Artillery, 3 or 4 gunners plus model. Generals are usually based individually so they can join other units to boost their morale and performance. I have placed mine on 30mm round bases. |

At the Fanaticus Forum there is some discussion about basing pike and shot together as this better represents a regiment of foot than two bases of shot and one of pike. You may want to ask which is preferred before you begin basing. |

Thanks for the info . I have asked how he wants them based as some clubs / wargamers use variations of rules/ basing to suit their specific games etc. The figs are Peter Pig and while I do 28MM for my collection, I have to give a thumbs up to theses figs . They look great and are a joy to paint. |

Generals are usually based individually so they can join other units to boost their morale and performance. No. That's not true for any of the DBX family. Generals, or command stands are always a specific troop type, and fight like that troop type with a +1 combat modifier, and are based on that troop type's base size. |

in Phil Barker‘s DBX rules there are no generals on round bases. Don't forget Lighthorse are typically two figures on a 40 x 30 mm base. Also in the ECW it's possible to have a highlander war band, and also hordes, I'm cavalry size bases. |

Sorry lads, but get with the times. The general trend is to base generals as mentioned. And please re-read the original post as it mentions nowhere that the owner is using a particular DBX rule set. |

Timurilank has things summed up well, though I normally base my Generals individually on square 40x30mm bases and there are also 40mmx15mm bases that you could use for Pikes and the like. I'm of the opinion that the majority of Shotte should be based on a single base, that way you can have a couple of purely pike units and some purely shotte units for variety. |

Sorry if this sounds self evident, but if I were painting stuff for a client I would ask him/her quite specifically what their requirements were. They are paying, after all! |

The single-based generals on a round base comes from the Renaissance extension for DBA that is popular. DBA-RRR |
