How many aircraft can you handle as a player in Check Your 6! (The WWII aircraft ruleset)

I enjoy using 3-4 fighters. If I am the guy assigned the bomber formation, then whatever it takes as they hardly maneuver

Agreed, three to four.

Bashytubits27 Mar 2018 8:27 p.m. PST

4, but the people who play it here usually only allow players 1 aircraft each.

I prefer 2-3, can do 4. The game would be a serious drag with more than 4 fighters.

Our group tends to let the side escorting the bombers run them by committee, or split them up, or got to whomever is standing nearest, or by the player trying to coordinate with them, or… whatever works. There's no good reason to force a player to fly a herd of winged cattle.

Great game. But I find it ironic that with a "real time" turn time of something on the order of 5 seconds, it can take 15 minutes or more to resolve. You have the movement resolution, with the resulting confusion and good natured joshing. Followed by combat resolution (charts leading to charts leading to tables…). Then plotting the next turn.

It's like The Sword and the Flame, where a terrific "small" game gets overwhelmed by multiple players handling multiple planes.

I agree with myxemail regarding both fighters and bombers. As a club we ran Pearl Harbour as a show game and at 1 time had almost 100 aircraft on the table, mostly bombers, and had no problems.

3-4 max. Unless bombers, as stated above.

Tom Reed28 Mar 2018 6:52 a.m. PST

Yup, 4 max, except as above.

I have run easily 6 aircraft. I ran 8 once but it was slow.

But I think 4 max would be best.

Two makes for a smoother game, but I could do up to four at a stretch

I like 2. Wingman and leader, 4 if not a multiplayer game. Anyone or all can handle bombers. Jet Age 2 is enough particularly with 2 seaters and radar management.
