Muskets

Cannon

in 15mm?

Im looking to order some bases and dont have a clue in what to get

What rules are you using or planing to use?

DBX basing is used by a number of other rulesets, but is not a universal standard.

40mmx15mm for heavy infantry
40x20mm for missle and light infantry,
40x30mm for cavalry,
40x40mm for artillery.

Art de Guerre doubles the depth for infantry while retaining the 40mm frontage.

Other rulesets can vary significantly but some at least are multiples of the DBx sizes.

Im looking at Regiment of Foote, Pike and Shote and Baroque. They dotn seem to care

I would base towards DBX as stated. Most compatible with many rule sets.

Mortem Et Gloriam will have a Renaissance set coming out by year's end. IMO, it will improve upon FoGR as it will have a more interesting command and control. DBX compatible of course.

Quite like the Streeter look about those regiments of foot.

Same blogger (not me btw) also talks about how they base the rest of their stuff here link

I find it a pretty useful blog.

I game using HOTT so create pike blocks as Behemoths, with 10 to 12 figures per 40 x 40 MM base. Knights, Riders, Hordes and Lurkers are on 40 x 30 MM bases, and Shooters and Warbands are on 40 x 20 MM bases. Magicians, Beasts and Artillery are on 40 x 40 MM bases.

After a few false starts with pre-DBx games and basing systems I ended up using the DBR system for all of my armies except the ECW ones which ended up using Forlorn Hope's system as the DBx bases did not work well with those rules.

But I was never that happy with the look of the units I could create with the DBx bases, it never felt right for 16th Century armies and the armies of the first half of the TYW as it was hard to recreate period formations.

So I ended up rebasing almost all of my figures on 30x30mm bases together with a few 15x30mm. Switching to rules that did used units rather than bases/elements for combat also helped me focus on creating good looking units rather than trying to bend a basing system to fit historical formations

Lately I have started using 40mm bases again for my "By Fire and Sword" armies, it was sort of needed to play the game and the scale of the game also makes the 40mm bases work as I am only trying to recreate a handfull of regiments at most rather than entire armies.

whats the DBR system like?

Tony S28 Mar 2018 4:34 p.m. PST

DBR is the renaissance version of DBA, a ruleset designed for ancients, although more complicated and fiddly. I – and our club – really, really enjoy DBA especially the newest 3rd edition, so we also tend to play DBR for our Pike & Shot games as we're quite familiar with the basic mechanisms.

I don't think it is as successful as DBA on a variety of levels, but it does have the advantage of covering the entire world for from 1500 to 1700, so a lot of conflicts are covered. Lulu sells the DBR and all its army lists as a single volume.

It's ok – some parts are odd, some parts work well, but I must admit that I always end up enjoying playing the game. Which might be a comment about our group, in that we're good friends that happen to get together and game for social reasons, and honestly could not really care about winning.

I base my for Baroque and Pike and Shotte and the new, For King and Parliament on large single unit bases.

Foot are 120mm x 30/40/60mm depending on period
Mounted are 120mm x 40mm
Guns are 40 x 40mm or the abouts

I do love the large single bases.
