Howdy, Shown below are my planned games for Historicon '18: (1) Maurice's Revenge – Byzantines vs. Sassanids Byzantines and Sassanids face off in a set-piece battle. Can the wily Byzantines pull a rabbit out of their hat? A Dark Age battle on the Byzantine eastern frontier. Planned for Thursday evening 7 pm, 6 players (2) Torik's Raid Torik Broknose and his brother Angmad once again cross the seas to raid. A monastery plundered, the Vikings attempt to return to their ships. But the fyrd has mustered, and red battle ensues. Planned for Friday morning, 10am, 4 players (3) Port Republic June 9, 1862 The day after Cross Keys, Jackson was faced with a tremendous dilemma. Fremont's divisions remained west of the Shenandoah River, with Shields' division east of the river. The river was in flood, and only crossable on the Port Republic bridges or to the north near Conrad's Store. In essence, Jackson had three options: (1) Attack Fremont, (2) Attack Shields, or (3) Retreat. Jackson believed Shields' command was the weaker force, and attacked. The rest is history. Scenario No. 5 from the new V&B ACW Scenario Book: A Storm in the Valley 1862. Planned for Saturday evening, 7pm, 6 players Should be great fun!

I'm running two games at Historicon. Times below are my first choice, subject to change according to the vicissitudes of scheduling and coordinating -- but that's out of my hands. Qurna The Garden of Eden December 1914 (Thursday July 12, 1-5 p.m.) Rules: Command Decision 4 Scale: 20 mm figures Scenario: 50 miles north of Basra, the retreating Turkish 38th Division took a stand at the confluence of the Tigris and Euphrates. The 6th (Poona) Indian Division was tasked with capturing Qurna, the "Garden of Eden" in local tradition. Both armies found it to be more like hell than paradise. (Maybe the forbidden fruit was dates, not apples.) Reata Hill "Intermingled with the Enemy" (Friday July 13 1:00-5:00 p.m.) Rules: Men Under Fire Scale: 20 mm figures Scenario: March 1916 In Africa, British and Belgians see WW1 as the chance for conquest of German colonies. First they must reclaim areas from the Germans under Lettow-Vorbeck. Rhodesians, South Africans, Baluchi and Askari have to capture Latema and Reata Hills from Germans and Askari under Major Kraut (yes his real name!) Allied troops hold part of Reata Hill, and they are intermingled with the enemy. |
