If you scroll to the 12th picture down from the top of the page it shows an interesting variation on an early Panzer II. The lead tank has a large square cupola on the turret top. Anyone got any more info on this? This is only picture I have seen that looks like this. Some sort of command variant maybe?

The above link has a similar Pzkpfw II marked as a Command Tank, not sure if this is definitely the same type but might be useful.

Yes, I would have guessed it was a Command Tank too.

It is part of a regular tank unit by the look of the picture which is what made me think Command tank not artillery observation tank. Anyone seen any other pictures of it?
This is the artillery Observation tank as I understood it.

+1 Sigwald.

Cyberhobby has a kit for one.

There are other images if you search Google for "Panzer II Beobachtungsturm"

I did see a picture somewhere of this variant captioned as a befehlswagen mit beobachtungsturm/command tank with an observation turret but my google fu fails me and I'm not finding additional information

A few more pictures here. Definitely a Command tank.

Here's an early model Pz II with the command cupola. The turret number does indicate that it is a command tank (from the "1" as the last digit).

You'd think a command or arty FO tank would have the scissors binoculars but I didn't see any in the pictures.

You have to sometimes be amazed with all the versions of all the vehicle types they produced and/or modified. Theirs and other nations' that they captured, etc.
