just wondering
what anti-aircraft weapons did us paras use on their drops ww2 was it simply m2 hmg on anti-aircraft mounts or was anti aircraft defence simply ignored

An airborne battalion did not have any M2s. An airborne division had a small AA battalion that had 36 M2s (in 3 batteries) on AA mounts.

They used the US Army Air Corps and hundreds of P-51s and P-47s.

Ah yes, the famous anti-aircraft bazooka, every Luftwaffe pilot's worst nightmare. Until he woke up.

Well, we know the 1911, blows up Tiger tanks, so I'm sure it works great on aircraft too.

Ah, the mighty .45 the ultimate all-round caliber.

IIRC, an M2 .50 cal weights @ 128 lbs., not counting ammo. Not easy to hump around.
