Anyone out there ever game a vampire outbreak? What rules did you use?

I'm thinking of gaming a solo campaign based on a vampire outbreak inspired by the set of 18mm vampires from Blue Moon. link

Since these vamps are dressed mainly in Victorian garb, I'll use my Old West and Victorian civilians, cowboys, etc as the hapless victims. Maybe the Count will arrive via the last stage from Dodge City?

I'm not interested in a "battle game" such as Dracula's America, more atmospheric horror. Naturally there will be combat, but less cartoony.

One method I've thought of is playing the initial part out from the vampire point of view. The Count will attempt to recruit minions and turn citizens into vamps until he is thwarted in some way. Then switch protagonists to "Our Heroes" that will proceed to hunt the vampires down until the final confrontation.

Wow, I'm curious how it turns out.

Are all the vampires incurable? Maybe the recently converted could be returned to humanity.

PS. You could always introduce some air-borne cause for the plague to get started, as in Last Man on Earth (1964):

Matheson's novel is one of the things that inspired me. I was thinking more of the viral vampire as opposed to the supernatural kind.

I saw in one of the ATZ supplements that there are vampire rules with two kinds of vamps. A Stage I vampire and a Stage II type. Stage 1 is feral with enhanced strength, etc, but can't control its blood lust. It has only limited cunning and always drains its victims until death. The Stage II is more formidable, can act convincingly human, can infect people with Stage I etc.

"It is said that the pandemic was caused by a war, and that it was spread by dust storms in the cities and an explosion in the mosquito population."

Maybe you can have a Doctor Neville wear a Victorian diving suit. :)
