Besides the fireflies would the irish guards use the 3 or 5?
I bought the 3 but realised it might have been the wrong tank.
It's not a big deal. It's my first tank and so mostly a practice thing. But will be good to know until next time.

Sherman Vs for the armoured divisions, Sherman IIIs (or I or II) for the independant armoured brigades.

You could always paint your III as an 8th Armoured Brigade tank.

While these are the tank holdings for June 44 it is still a good reference. link

King Monkey is correct. The three Regiments of the 5th Guards Armored Brigade, Guards Armored Division (Grenadier Guards, Coldstream Guards and Irish Guards) used the Sherman V (M4A4). However the Division's Reconnaissance tank Regiment, the Welsh Guards, used the Cromwell. Once again: link

We stand on others shoulders :)

Quite a few here helped me out when I was starting on my project to do Guards Armored Division to Rapid Fire scale including what markings were correct.

I've only studied this for about two weeks. Drowned in info about large and small hatches, various tracks, engines, cannons, welded hulls, ect ect.

I run the Sherman modeling site over on Yahoo and believe me I know!

Few books might help though they can be pricey:

Sherman: A History of the American Medium Tank by R.P. Hunnicutt. Long considered the "bible"

Son of Sherman Volume 1
The Sherman Design and Development: A complete and illustrated description of the U.S. M4 Sherman tank series in the Second World War by Patrick Stansell and Kurt Laughlin. Despite saying it is Volume 1 it is very complete (the rumored Volume 2 will contain modeling information) and probably the most comprehensive single source

Armored Thunderbolt: The U.S.Army Sherman in World War II by Steven Zaloga. Most readable of the three by far and good information.
