How many different types of flora do you like on the board for your favourite type of game? Obviously, variety of plants would vary by genre and battle, thus the caveat about your fave game. So tell us what that type of game is, too. If you have a couple of different faves, feel free to list them all. Urban Guerilla Warfare – Two – one grass and one tree type.
Forest Guerilla Actions – Three – two grasses and one tree. Jungle/Swamp Pulp Adventure – Five – two grasses, two trees, and one exotic (like a carnivorous plant) Alien/Space Hulk Games – Zero! Usually there are no plants. |

LOTS. Most of my terrain is for my 15mm early America games (ACW, AWI): - Green or tan ground cloth, to be the short mixed wild "grass", color based on season. Hills go under, so don't have their own plant life.
- 4 types of generic forest trees: light green deciduous, mid-green deciduous, bare (winter) deciduous, piny-like evergreen.
- Orchards of apple trees.
- Lichen and random bits of ground foam to represent generic bushy plants; clumped into the woods and along riverbanks, some sprinkled as scatter terrain. Brown for fall/winter, green for spring/summer.
- Farm fields, either grassy green or grassy tan.
- Blobby shapes and strips of brown teddy bear fur to represent grassy swampy areas.
So that's up to 10 visual variations of plant life in one game. I once made some blobby fields of flowering plants, but they looked too much like pizza, so I gave them away. Also in the crafting queue: - "Early shoots" for some of my bare dirt farm fields. My bare dirt fields are corduroy, and the raised areas beg for rows of green shoots and sprigs.
- Cornfields. I have all the ingredients, just haven't started the project.
- Garden plots. Little rectangular arrangements of plants to place alongside houses in town areas. Too many plants to count, but all generic (except maybe corn and particular fruit trees).
- Green/tan swamp grass for summer and tropical swamps.
- Deciduous trees in fall colors. I have the armatures and the red, orange and yellow clump foliage, just not the time to glue them together.
- Other fruit trees. I have the fruit, I have the trees, haven't glued them together.
I ran a game set in Mexico once, and it had about 3 varieties of cactus, 2 varieties of palm trees, and the planted farm fields were the green and tan grasses listed above (the bare fields were a light tan, as befits drier tropical dirt). All the cactus and palms were borrowed, but I have since bought enough of each to make my own. - Ix |

I like a couple of dozen when I can manage it! Currently working on my Sleepy Hollow layout which will feature about 20 varieties of locally native trees; plus corn, pumpkins, cattails, lily pads, grasses, and a variety of coloured bits in the ground flocking for the wild flowers (there are a lot of ground cover types blooming there in October). |

Depends on the scenario. I don't have one of everything that exist in nature on the table. Just what makes sense for that scenario. |

I do have a lot of 6mm Flora, including alien, and I use it based on the location of the battle. On Earth or otherwise …

However many to make the game look good. |

It depends on the setting, of course. A desert table may not display any flora. A forest or jungle will have many different kinds. |
