I'm painting for a large Monmouth Courthouse scenario and need to do a Washington figure. I can't decide on what Vallejo color to use for his vest, pants and trim. I know it's called buff but have seen anything from a light tan to yellow. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

To be truthful, although there are many images available of the great man, eg:
I imagine if you could ask him today, if he could give you a clear answer! – also, figures look different – if you painted the correct colour, on a small figure, it looks different! The Smithsonian has some examples and there are others. Take your pick! link

I've wrestled with that same question. Finally arrived at Iraqi Sand. Am very happy with the result. |

What you want is a buff titanium to get the colour in the images of the actual clothing shown above. |

I use German Cammo Beige as my default AWI buff, but Iraqis Sand is useful alternative. |

I would say that there is no such thing as a "default SWI buff". Like all British facings colors, each Regiment had its own distinct hue. Part of the "fun" is trying to match the "correct" color to a close enough Vallejo, craft paint etc paint. |
