That's exactly what they want.

Well Pessa is up to his old tricks again. He's knocked out this fantastic figure of a human army general on a giant vulture for his Kings of War army.

Jeez, he's going to be picking over the bones of my poor old orcs in no time.

Find it here:

Hope you enjoy.

Yeah particularly happy with this guy as he's just a toy vulture I picked up on ebay for A$10. Thought it suited the theme of my Arabian KoW army nicely.

Just gave him a few ink washes and picked out the highlights, and most importantly a good layer of brush on matt varnish.

Added saddle and harness with a bit of GS, the general is an old Empire knight model with a Gripping Beast Arab head. Added a spare hoplite shield I had handy and Bob's yer uncle …

Always nice to see what can be done with a toy and some miniature conversion work!

There is a lot that can be done with toy figures like Schleich's animals. I wanted Goblin Bat Cavalry for my 2e BattleSystem games, to give the Goblins more than just numbers. I tried a rubbery toy bat, from Halloween, but it was too rubbery. Ended up buying somewhat expensive Schleich Fruit Bats. The Fruit Bats are superb, straight from the factory. The only thing necessary, was to cut a small V-notch on each side of the neck to allow the Goblin's legs to fit around the Bat. Add a touch of E6000 Glue, and wait an hour for it to set.

I took long quilting pins, Hot Glued the head to a base, with the pin shaft vertical. Then I bent the sharpened tip, 90-degrees, and pushed it into the underside of the Fruit Bat figure: this allows the model to bank, by rotating it on the pin mount, as desired. En masse, on the tabletop, they look superb! Really beefs up the pitiful Goblin army, introducing a bit of fear when they appear on the table…

There are other animals which can be pressed into service as well. They make several sizes of elephants, usually cheaper than metal models, and they come fully painted! The larger toys could even be modified into Oliphaunts, if desired. Cheers!

A friend of mine repainted a Schleich giant that he uses for his eastern themed WHF army.
