Anyone gaming this conflict? I am tempted by the rather nice 28mm figures from Commando Miniatures and would be interested in suggestions about rules and scenarios. |

You might be better off with the Radfan – there were a number of very different scenarios in play there (including cents and light armour – plus the earlier days of SF before they became fashionable). Aden itself was mostly put your back up against a wall and shoot any who tries to throw a grenade. The funny thing was in those days it was not unusual for blokes to patrol on their own, or well spaced out, with just a radio to call for back up if things really got nasty. I suppose you could do the Police mutiny, over-running and subsequent re-occupation of Crater but it is tough to imagine what the rules would look like. In general during the insurgency you either ended up dead – or shot someone. Try Radfan – more mileage… (or Oman….) |

Since you are wanting to do this in 28mm, you might want to check these figures out as well: link I had a few and they are really nice figures.

Agree about the Radfan. However it is tempting to be be able to use the Mad Mitch and the Argyll piper figures in Crater. |

I plan to do this in 15mm using Peter Pig figures, QRF vehicles and Nordic Weasel's No End in Sight rules. link …still on the workbench / drawing board, but it will happen! |

Quite often game Aden, Yemen and Dhofar in my on going Adventures in Southern Arabia project but do it in 20mm. |

I can well understand that temptation – and thanks Kevin C – those Yemenis with a little jiggery pokery could be useful for several periods… |

Definitely recommend the Eureka figures. Bought the Brits in Glengarry hats from them at Salute a couple of years ago with the same aim as you. They are great figures. |

Thanks for all the replies. Tinned Fruit, what figures in 20mm are you using and what rules? |

Hi Alan A mixture of manufacturers:- RH Models/ Liberation – the Aussies in Vietnam range for guys in bush hats with SLR for Brits and SAF plus loads of Somalis with soviet weapons with Raventhorpe heads swaps for head scarves for Adoo. Britannia – the Aussies in Vietnam range for guys in bush hats with SLR for Brits and SAF. Their SBS & LRDG for Brits in Yemen. IT Miniatures – Arabs with rifles B&B Miniatures – Arabs with rifles and HMG and civilians. Elhiem – Egyptians with SKS for Yemen and civilians. Plus bits and pieces from Raventhorpe. Rules – the classic Ambush Alley. I did a couple of AAR on the now defunct Guild Wargamers Forum. Hope this helps. Phil |

Hi Phil, Thanks for the list. If you have joined the new Wargamers Forum, would there be any chance of you reposting your AARs ther to give me some ideas and inspiration? Alan |

I am new to modern skirmish gaming. What rules would you all recommend? I got inspired by watching the BBC series: The Last Post. |

There are several options for modern skirmishing: the original Ambush Alley which I think is now superseded by Force on Force (and a new version still in development) Wars of Insurgency link Nordic Weasel's No End in Sight link Iron Ivan's Disposable heroes link No doubt others will chip in with other suggestions. |
