Does anyone else still play the TAC:WW2 rules ?

mghFond12 Mar 2018 4:49 p.m. PST

I owned it many years ago but our group gave it up after a couple battles. Don't even recall what we didn't like about it.

Used it once or twice. Some good concepts.

Liked the combat modes, but too hard to keep marked. Have most of the scenario books.

Banana Man28 Mar 2018 1:38 p.m. PST

Nope, didn't really like the look of them at the time. Didn't they have about a thousand optional rules?

thomalley29 Mar 2018 2:01 p.m. PST

They had less than 10 optional rules. There're only about 40 pages long and that includes table of contents and several blank and almost blank pages. Biggest problem was each company had to be given one of 6 status each turn and most people didn't like all those markers o the table.

thomalley if you have the Russo-Finnish book, would you be interested in selling it ?

thomalley30 Mar 2018 5:34 a.m. PST

Sorry that's one I would like also. They are nice scenario books. Wish he'd done some more. I've got the Hungarian, Late East front, 1940 and the WWII Campaign book. And am keeping them.

I want to keep the ones I have. There use to be a Yahoo group, don't know if anyone still there but maybe someone there might have the one you want. Arc of Fire (it also has a Yahoo group) is by Pringle and I think he's based in the UK.

Guthroth30 Mar 2018 11:02 p.m. PST

The yahoo group has had no posts since 2012 …. I dont want to lose any of mine either, but do I but I have one you don't and if they are unobtainable we might trade copies.

Our club plays TAC from time to time. I like the command and control rules with the various tactical modes but it's very much of its time (1980s) which means infantry are generally treated with contempt (like WRG). Very difficult for infantry to shoot at anything with effect.
