Could the Giant Eagles get a fair fight against the flying forces of Sauron? |

Maybe if they focused only on the fell beasts and not the Nazgul riders. Dan |

Since Thorondor messed over Morgoth in the first age, I'd bet Gwaihir (his descendant in the third Age)and his followers, could best Morgoth's servant's (Sauron) servants (Nazgul), especially since there were more Eagles than Ringwraiths. |

Yes. As noted above, there are a lot more Eagles than fell beasts. Sure, the riders are nasty, but when you gut the mount with your talons, they both fall in quite a satisfying matter. 9 down, and you're done. |

Perhaps, but the Nazghul do have the Orc archers to help them and Black Darts. I think there's a reason the Eagles only came in after the Nazghul were destroyed and the armies of Mordor were thrown into turmoil. |

Crazyivanov So … are you saying that the eagles were chicken? Dan |

When the eagles attack the Nazgūl during the Battle of the Black Gate, the Nazgūl flee. Granted, they were racing to Mt. Doom, but it seems like the eagles weren't intimidated. |

I think you're conflating events between the movie and the book. Because I remember the Eagles arriving after the Nazgul flew off to try to get at Sam and Frodo. Also, I spelled Nazgul wrong originally. |
