While going through my stuff I found a group of Undead Aristocrats I had painted in the Summer last.

picture

Vampires are rule, and I painted these based on the 90s schemes for Vlad and Isabella von Carstein. "Vlad" is a Heroclix Vampire stripped and repainted.

Which the camera refuse to show in focus. Bella on the other hand is a Reaper Bones sculpt.

Camera sure likes her and her Hellfire Club esque wardrobe.

The couple as seen from behind. And some Bones Bats to round out the shoot.

Cool!

An undead couple goes into the office of a music hall agent…

Not to be too evil, but your color choices are in my opinion something you need to work on. I would look at a colour wheel and think about triads.

Mick, I would have picked different colors, but I chose to base them on the old Vlad and Isablla von Carstein color scheme seen here.

They were cheap minis and good for a laugh I think.

Right, this is what I am speaking of when I mean triads. The figures you are inspired by only use the contrasting red in smaller proportion to the overall surface area. Your male fig is fairly equal for all three colors so that the contrasting color of red is overwhelming. It's sort of like putting in too much oregano in a sauce. inspiring Vlad might be going overboard with the red sword but that is probably based on the property of sword in the story and not chosen just for contrast. Still, I would also have muted some of the inspiring Vlad's reds.

Your technique otherwise pretty good, I would break the red tunic to mute it or use the red only as an accent, like a border on the hem of a blue tunic. To "break" a color is to add just a touch of the opposite color on the wheel.
(red is opposed by green).

I realize some of this might be overly pedantic because photography and computer viewing may not be showing the actual color of the fig in the flesh.

I have both of the GW vampires. The Vlad is painted, Isabella isn't.

I'll get around to her eventually. I've only had her for twenty years or so.

Nice job on your miniaures. I agree: your Isabella is wearing a lot less than her inspiration…
