Greetings folks. After 30 years of playing 40/30k im jumping ship to try my hand at Whfb. In particular im trying 6th edition. That said, ive been doing lots of research for what im going to need and i ran into a small block when it came to magic cards. Some of them appear to belong to certain factions while others seem more generic. Im hoping to get some advice on what packs i should buy if im running Empire and Beastman armies for 6th Ed. Thanks for any tips. |

There are generic spell lists that magicians have access to. Then there are army specific spells. So for instance, Dark Elves have access to the generic spell lists in the main rule book, and then have their own magic spells "Dark Magic", which only they have access to. The Empire & Beatman army books will have the full write ups of their specific spells so check the army books. Good luck with finding the actual cards, they were mostly sold on a limited run basis. try evil-bay or similar. |

I don't remember any spell cards in 6th edition. All the schools of magic (Empire) were in the core rulebook and then all the special lores were in their related army books. Were the spell cards a add-on reference source? You can always just print out the needed spell lists from the books and save some money on the cards. |

I never had the cards and 6th edition was the one that I played more than any other. I don't even remember there being cards. |

I always liked 40K Tried as I like – I never could get into WFB – even when I was a GW employee. I was always excited to play – but afterwards – even when I won – I felt, that should the game should have been less work and more fun. I do enjoy Kings of War – for what that is worth. |

The edition that had lizard men and bretonia sa the boxed set had an expansion called warhammer magic. There were indeed decks of cards with spells as well as others that represented the winds of magic. There were also several decks of Magic items. Chaos had their own boxed set too that had more spells and magic items. |

Yes, that was 5th edition. Also 4th edition before that had two box sets of magic cards, Battle Magic and Arcane Magic, plus the Chaos box set. |

The cards came back in 8th edition, though they weren't necessary because the spells were in the main book and army books. The 8th edition cards are physically larger cards with nicer artwork and style, compared to the 4th/5th edition cards. |

For starters good for you in starting WFB, and personally I like the choice of Editions that you have picked. I have to do a shameless plug of classichammer.com as an added resource to you to compliment TMP. Likewise there is a Facebook group called Middlehammer which I also recommend. Running Empire and Beastman armies should only require the Basic Rule Book(also known as BRB, and affectionately as the Big Red Book) for their magic usage. Empire has access to all 8 lore's in the book, and Beastmen have access to only 2 or 3 lore's. There does exist fan made cards I believe that were put out, but they were for pure reference and memory aides, nothing more. Anyone selling magic cards for 6th edition are Charlatans and trying to conn you. |
