So if you don't want marines, here is a new 40K starter set for you. It has mechanicum and necrons. A nice techno face off.

I think this is a good idea. It certainly gives you some neat models and you get two of the new "nearly-Knights."

The forces contain pretty cool stuff on each side and some of the more useful things in their armies.

Two boxes split between two friends would give a pretty decent force for either side, just a few add-ons, like a Start Collecting box which is available for both would then give you two very decent armies.

I'm not sure about pricing, $150 USD would seem pretty reasonable. It would be about $120 USD to buy the Necrons alone. And another $110 USD for the Mechanicus stuff not including the "nearly-knights."

I'm happy with the force choice.

Spotted this yesterday and was intrigued. It felt unusual to me. Those force choices, in particular. Not the standard Space Marines versus X.

I'm intrigued by the AdMech aesthetic too. If I knew some 40K players, I'd be tempted to start an army.

With Necromunda and now this, GW feels… different lately.

Insomniac07 Mar 2018 12:37 p.m. PST

It's a good box of stuff for me… I have a use for 80% of the miniatures.

It's also a good choice because… Robot Wars!

I reckon that price wise, it is going to be really difficult to say no to… £100.00 GBP? I certainly wouldn't put it past GW at the moment… and it will be a lot less than the cost of the miniature sets individually.

Pictors Studio07 Mar 2018 2:14 p.m. PST

It is tempting to get it for the ad mech stuff for 30k.

Pictors Studio07 Mar 2018 2:18 p.m. PST

Gw has felt different for the last 3 or 4 years now.

I've only noticed it in the last year or so. Then again, I don't play AoS or 40K.

I'll get some of the new Necromunda gangs for sure but I'm still on the fence about multiple rule books.

JimSelzer07 Mar 2018 2:45 p.m. PST

maybe its because so many of havr enough marines that bthe new blood figures make it more likely to be picked up and perhaps they want to drum up interest in 2 new armies with much smaller following

chuck05 Fezian07 Mar 2018 3:35 p.m. PST

Is this going to be another limited run Like Deathmasque and Imperial Knights Renegade?

Pictors Studio07 Mar 2018 6:29 p.m. PST

To be fair they have all been limited runs.

Another cash grab by GW! Those knights are overpriced and you can easily get transformers at the dollar store cheaper than that. This kickstarter has a better price and you get more minis for the $: link

At my local store they had dreadfleet on the shelf for the past 6 years and nobody buys it, GW just makes these releases for a quick cash grab. They are losing money and are desperate!

Pictors Studio07 Mar 2018 10:40 p.m. PST

Gee CP how do you think it can be saved? Do you think some of their disaffected customers would be happy if they had another 12 inches?

LOLOL… Mithmee is that you???

Centurio Prime08 Mar 2018 5:41 a.m. PST

GW has lost money for the last 16 years! 12 inches can help anybody but I would never buy their overpriced stuff. I can get a bag of green army men at walmart for $1.69 USD. Why pay $1,700 USD for a starter army from GW? This is why I haven't played GW game in 20 years but I post here.

CP, take a breath, dude. You sound a little… shrill. There's lots of things to get upset about in this world – toy soldier's isn't one of them.

And forgive me for being Captain Obvious: no one's forcing you to buy GW. Don't like 'em? Fine. There are plenty of other good companies out there. Me? I buy the occasional GW figs and slot them into other games.

Why don't you go have a good time with your Walmart Green Army Men? Maybe post pictures and Bat Reps of some of your games so we can all see how to do it right.

He's not being serious laugh

nvdoyle08 Mar 2018 6:45 p.m. PST

Congratulations, CP, you've just demonstrated Poe's Law for GW haters. I honestly can't tell if you're serious or parody.

Anyway, back to the set in question – it's a must buy for me. The AdMech will go nicely with my Start Collecting box, and I'll go ahead and start a Necron force, as the Codex comes out soon.

Andy Skinner Supporting Member of TMP09 Mar 2018 6:46 a.m. PST

I've _almost_ been interested in GW stuff lately, but their fixation on chaos has been a turn-off. I just don't want Bloodwhatevers or PusSpewingZitBubbles.

I could be tempted by this box, though. Fortunately, I've already got too many projects going, and don't think I'd take up this. But I'll think about it …

One really nice thing about this product is that ALL of the models in it are useful and if you only wanted half of it you could easily trade the other half.

I'm interested in the Ad Mech but not the necrons. If someone wanted Necrons I'd gladly go in on two boxes to swap them.

GypsyComet10 Mar 2018 12:55 a.m. PST

GW has felt different for the last 3 or 4 years now.

But two different periods of "different". The Kirby years felt very much like a company run strictly by the numbers with no concern or adjustment for the business the company was actually in. Only in the last 18 months has it felt like the new guy at the top was actually running a specific business instead. The shift was immediate and obvious if you've spent any time paying attention.

MiniatureReview10 Mar 2018 2:07 p.m. PST

CP I guess you just love trolling boards.

The box set is rather tasty. I probably will not buy it because I am playing Marines. Still it will probably be a great value for other players.

Pictors Studio10 Mar 2018 2:28 p.m. PST

"But two different periods of "different". "

I've been paying very close attention. At least since about the middle of 2015 GW seems to have been going down a different route. Certainly since Nov. of 2015 GW has been doing one thing after another to make fans happy and giving them what they want.

From plastic Horus Heresy stuff to the Generals Handbook for AoS to Genestealer Cult armies coming back to the return of Necromunda, to lowering their prices on many of their models and offer super good bundle deals.

They have just been knocking it out of the park. At least in my area sales are showing it. One of my local stores can't even get in everything he orders and can barely keep GW stuff in stock any more.

I want to split two boxes with someone so I can get 4 of those little knights.
