4d10 LLC is doing a KickStarter for the "CardMogrifier Poker Size Blank Cards and Templates" -- basically, you can drop images into our templates and print out a deck of cards on your laser printer (six punch-out cards to the sheet with either red or black generic Pegasus backs). Tweak a boardgame? Prototype your card game? Create gag gifts? Note: the cardstock is slightly thinner than typical cards so that it can go through the laser printer. It's already triple funded, we've already done the die-cut prototypes, and now we're doing some last-minute tweaks. The stretch goals of pre-printed custom sci-fi and horror backs are already unlocked. We also offer blank card sheets so you can create your own custom fronts and backs. This is our third successfully-funded Kickstarter. Interested? Deadline is March 7. Please use this link: CardMogrifier on KickStarter

As I recall they tried the same KS about 6-9 months ago and it didn't fund. Not sure sure if this may be a solution in search of a problem. |

And I recall one a couple years ago?! |

Yes, a solution looking for a problem. A rather expensive looking solution at that. |

The very, very first CardMogrifier KS (Dec 2016-Jan 2017) fell short of its $10,000 USD goal. We retooled and relaunched middle of last year and it was a double funded success -- about $5,000 USD pledged of $2,500 USD goal. This initial version was to modify one single card in one of three sizes: Poker, Bridge, and Halfsize. All backers received their CardMogrifiers. This CardMogrifier 'Six Pack' Poker-sized card blanks is already more than triple funded -- $3,574 USD pledged of $1,000 USD goal! This new version (building on the CardMogrifier brand, so to speak) allows you to print six die-cut poker-sized cards at a time on your laser printer. Cost: 20 sheets (120 cards) for $9 USD to start, with generic 'Pegasus' backs, sci-fi backs, or horror backs pre-printed, plus a 'vote' for another type of pre-printed back. We also are selling blank backs where you can print your own custom card backs and fronts. Our second KS was the Wally Simon Vol. 8 'Naval Secrets of Wargame Design' booklet, which was also successfully funded $1,769 USD pledged of $250 USD goal. All backers received their booklets. If you like DIY cards, the CardMogrifier 'Six Pack' is one option among many. |

The KS for our "CardMogrifier Poker Size Blank Cards and Templates" is over now and successfully funded. Final total: 129 backers pledged $4,137 USD, which is quadruple what we sought. Surveys go out next and then we wait for KS to turn over the funds, and then we go to print, package, and mail them out. We're thinking we can mail in April. Thank you to all our backers! |

There are a number of wargames which utilize a deck of playing cards to activate units: each card is assigned to a particular unit; all of the units' cards are mixed, and shuffled, then drawn, one at a time, during the game turn. This offers the opportunity to use custom unit cards, as opposed to assigning 10/J/Q/K/A/Joker to a particular unit/purpose. I use cards to activate figure types in my Army Men games, as it is much more exciting than doing a standard, IGO-UGO turn sequence. I also use two different colored Jokers, one for each side: the Joker allows the owning player(s) to get a free action for a unit/figure type, of their choice, when the card is drawn. It makes for a much more interesting game turn: each unit/figure type gets one guaranteed action per Turn, plus the player gets a 2nd, free action, for whichever unit they choose, at the time their Joker is revealed. This product has a potential use for miniature games. I am tempted… Very tempted. Thank you, Russ Lockwood. Cheers! |
