I picked up some great looking plastic starships. link They are the same type of hard plastic used in model kits. The problem of course is that they look like plastic. I really do not want to paint them since they are molded in two colors and have some nice insignia. Has anyone put a coat of dull or semi gloss varnish on a plastic item to alleviate the plastic look? What was your experience? Are there other techniques? |

I would spray them with a mat varnish which will dull down the plastic shine. Alternatively, you could spray them with gloss, add light weathering and then follow up with mat. |

What Joes Shop said – gloss, then a wash, then dull. Doug |

Model kit plastic takes paint so well that I would be unable to stop myself from painting them. |
