I've, slowly, begun building a Genestealer Culy army for modern Warhammer 40k. The idea is to act as a sort of tribute to Brian Ansel's original Genestealer Cult and I got one of the more interesting members for, relatively, cheap over eBay a little while ago.

This is my first time painting a Bob Olley model, that I was consciously aware of anyway, and I was a little overwhelmed at first from the crazy massive extra detail all over the thing. But once I started painting it I found it rather easy to do. Much more fun to paint than some of the overly detailed, designed in CAD, stuff you get today.

And I did fix the glove that got some metal pint on it since taking the picture.

I like the sheen his pants and cloak have. How did you do it?

Don't you just hate it when you can't see the mispaint then take a pic, blow it up, and all you can see is that fleck of paint.

The entire miniature was primed black, then dry brushed grey. The pants were base-coated Hormagaunt Purple, then given a wash of Druchii violet, then a coat of slightly diluted Game Color Warlord Purple followed by successive highlights of Warlord Purple(I think 3 or four coats by the end on the creases). The cloak was base coated with Privateer Press Cygnar Blue Base then Highlighted with Game Color Magic Blue( I think two coats).

I noticed that there's a rogue blue splotch on the vest that I don't want to repaint because I overall like the vest t table top level.

Mean and creepy ! I love it. Macrocosm miniatures have some cult proxies that have a similar 80s flair.

I like that they have Jetbikes. And Ogryns. And some more old style Magi. Does anyone know about alternate Rough Riders? My brother worked out a nice system using Marauder Horsemen but those have gone to online only.
