I'm taking a small trip this summer from Berlin to Prag, and looking to see if anyone has suggestions for sights. I'm starting in Potsdam, and will pay my respects to the Prussian King and his Italian Greyhounds at Sans Souci. We are ending at Prag, and will visit Kolin as well. In between we are stopping at Magdeburg, Wittenberg, Torgau, Dresden, and near Lobositz. Please let me know if you know of any good period museums, memorials, or other places of interest. Danke sehr! |

I have two off the top of my head, first is Konigstein castle along the Elbe just south of Dresden across the river from Pirna the scene of the surrender of the Saxon army. The second is Forchstenstein castle its closer to Vienna but not that far away from your route. Its a must see has gallery upon gallery of captured Prussian equipment from Maxen. I did all of your points of call, plus several others last May with a buddy. It was great. Paul |

There is a German Army museum in Dresden that is worth the time to visit and the Berlin Zeughaus museum is good. Of course, in Berlin, is the Berliner Zinnfiguren store that is a must see. Another vote for Konigstein castle. In the Czech Republic there is the Vauban style Theresenstein fortress between Lobositz and Prague. |

Danke sehr für die Hilfe! I've noted the above, and I double checked the itinerary, and we are indeed stopping at Königstein and Theresianstadt (Terezin). I've added the Zeughaus and Zinnfiguren for Berlin. If we can fly out of Wien then perhaps I can add Forchstenstein, which looks interesting. If we have free time in Dresden, then the German Army museum might be good to visit. Does anyone know if there are any memorials or small museums at Lobositz or Torgau? Or anything on the battlefield to focus on? I haven't been able to find anything. Thanks again for the help! Servus! |

Nothing at Lobositz at all as far as museums or memorials go. In fact a major road has been constructed right down the middle of it since I was first there in 1994. I nearly cried when I saw it. You cant stop progress I guess. There was nothing at Torgau in 1994 I havent been back since. One other place came to me there is a museum in Custrin on the Oder river just on the polish side of the river. I drove past it and was later told there are lots of items that have been recovered from the Kunersdorf battlefield. No time for me to double back and see it which I am very sorry. Custrin is due east of Berlin. Paul |

We visited with the curator of the site in 2016, as part of Christopher Duffy's tour. Gregor is an archeologist and has recovered an amazing amount of battlefields artifacts, somif there is a museum then it is probably quite good. I hadn't realized that you were going to be in Wien, so I would who Forschstenstein castle as probably the most important site that you could see on your whole trip. |

Yes thats the museum! And Jim is correct about Gregor collection, he told me most of his prize finds from the Kunersdorf battlefield are at the Custrin museum. Paul |

If you're in Prague, don't miss the Vysehrad fortress. The have a nice museum and you can explore the entire fortress. It's a great example of Vauban era engineering. You can also see where Prussian cannon balls hit the walls during the siege. |

Danke viel mal! Thank you all for your help, it's been exciting planning the trip, and perhaps I can post some photos. As a loyal supporter of Her Majesty Maria Theresia, I shall still place a nice potato on Friedrich's grave, and a dog biscuit on Biche's grave. |
