I am not sure if there is a section in the rules about this or not.

If a player were to have a flak gun under the tarp in the back of their truck (ie Opel Maultier) and was attacked, would there be any wait to counter? (ie uncover and fire)

One would think possibly, but the crew would be prepared on going into action and know their roles.

I realize this would only work once upon a new player. Just some thoughts.

"This would only work once on a new player". Reason enough not to do it in a game.

But a real life reason is that if you with until they are that close, you've waited too long.

If the assault is within 6" then there is no defensive fire. Nor is there if the target has any order die bar ambush (which also trumps the 6" rule). I would expect the truck to be modelled with a flak shaped tarp on the back of it or I would pack up my army and go home. Models should reflect what they are suppoosed to be, not in a rivet counter sort of way but good enough not to fool an opponent.

Besides being very unrealistic I would consider it extremely Cheesy and then to plan on using it on a new player to be unconscionable.

You could allow it but to add play balance to the scenario you could also permit the opposing force to be equipped with X-ray vision glasses so they have a chance to surprise the surprisers.

I imagine it would be pretty difficult to hide an operational flak piece on the back of a truck.

You are probably going to have problems depressing the barrel to be effective.

It is a very cheesy and gamey thing to do. How about you try and help a new player instead of driving them away with foolish play?

One of the tings about Bolt Action is there are no hidden units or disguised units. Your opponent knows everything you have and where it is on the table. It's the tournament element of the game, no surprises.

Troops with AA guns have to train the gun in the direction of the target, hard to do with a tarp over your head. By the time someone not under the tarp says take the tarp off there is a plane coming, it's too late. Planes move very fast.

I had to laugh at some of the responses. You can certainly tell who takes a game far too seriously!

This whole concept of hidden weapons was 1) for fun (should not games be fun?!), 2) some historical accuracy (hidden weapons) and 3) some "fog of war" to the game.
