Ok, I will be painting up a bunch of 15mm hoplites and lt. cav. Need Jav. and spears, what is your favorite company for these…would like more than just a sharp point, an actual flattened spear tip would be nice.

I just do not want to make these.

Plastic broom bristles aren't that difficult; you can cut them to uniform and precise lengths, the ends pinched with pliers form the blade and two more angled pressings of an Xacto sharpen them and you're done. No risk of injury, they take primer and paint as well and are easily affixed with a gel based superglue. But I can understand the preference to avoid that kind of work.

The quantity of pikes needed to outfit my ECW collection was astronomical in cost leaving me no real choice.

Brigade Games sells the ones from Northstar, they are pretty good.

Also what would you suggest as pikes for the War and Empire range of pikemen

"Also what would you suggest as pikes for the War and Empire range of pikemen"

The Xyston, Northstar or Donnington spears will work as they are long enough for pike, needing to be cut down for javelins and spears.

HANS GRUBER26 Feb 2018 6:36 a.m. PST

The Xyston are intended for 15mn. The North Star are somewhat thicker, for 25.

North Star do both thicknesses. "Our 50mm long wire spears are thin enough to be used with 15mm sized figures." IIRC they are 0.8mm, the same as Xyston.

I've noticed that North Star spears have gone up a lot in price over the past year or two. They are currently £7.25 GBP for a pack of 40. It wasn't that long ago they were £5.00 GBP a pack I could even get them from Wayland for a bit less.

Black Hat do nice pikes/spears for 15mm that are silvered rather than copper at about £6.00 GBP for 40 IIRC from my last order

Any listing for Black Hat? When I looked today they had North Star spears for £7.00 GBP and they were out of stock.
