So I just got into playing Warhammer for the first time in my gaming career and I decided to go with 6th edition rules and Empire miniatures. The knightly orders are pretty sparse (and expensive) on Ebay so I'm looking into alternatives. I was hoping someone might recommend an Italian Wars line of Gendarmes that would fit in well with GW minis from the 6th edition period. Thanks for any input. I know that there have been similar discussions like this in the past but my search feature is currently not working on my phone. Thsnks! |

Foundry: link Steel Fist: link Redoubt: link Eureka: link All are 28mm. Foundry and Redoubt are the "heftiest." Eureka is the smallest. Steel Fist are also large, but not as hefty as Foundry and Redoubt. (Steel Fist are also the "prettiest" in my opinion). |

28mm Eureka Miniatures have the Gendarmes and Archer support packs at reasonable prices. I liked both the figures and you can get thousands of poses with the different weapons and headgear. I couldn't bring myself to get the rest of the infantry, so I sold my figures off to a friend in a miniatures exchange. He wanted knights for tourney jousting, though… Blake PS I love the Steel Fist figures. I'd buy some if I'd extra money lying about, but I don't, lol. |

Foundrys knights are perfect, but they do have the drawback of only having one pose of armoured horse. Made by the Perrys, the Foundry horse and riders match pretty well with the Perry ManAtArms set, though, and you can add barded horse from there. Eurekas are absolutely beautifull, but alas on the smaller side. If you have GW plastic infantry, they will look a bit weired next to each other, considering that Gensdarmes should use larger horse. Their pro is that you have the riders from fully to half armoured, thus reflecting real compositions pretty good. Redoubt are a bit on the rough side of sculpting. Get some examples before you jump in there. Some like that style, and they paint up quite well. Steel fist are the characters – a bit larger actually then Foundry, and exceptionally sculpted. Get them for characters and front ranks. There are others out there, notably the Perry ManArArms-set, which will produce fine pre1500 heavy cavalry. If you play GW that should not pose a problem. Old Glory has Gensdarmes, but take a look before you order them. |

If you want to keep the cost down Perry's plastic men-at arms are the way to go. They aren't quite Italian wars but £20.00 GBP for 12 knights is good value for money link |

Pro Gloria has nice knights. Not sure if Warlord is still selling them. By the way Old Glory 25s French Wars of Religion are a great match for GW, especially if you have any of the earlier metal empire minis or want to run Pirrazo's Lost Legion. link I can snap a few photos of my still unpainted collection. Just don't get any of the Landsknecht as they are wearing pluderhosen. Although those would make great alternatives to the typical Empire army. The OG Army card will be your friend… |

I have a couple 12 man units of unpainted 28mm Wargames Foundry Gendarmes that I would love to sell off. $36 USD for a unit of 12 Gendarmes plus shipping. |
