Simple question, is there an authorised or generally accepted version for C&C using single stand basing for each unit with non hex based movement and ranges?

G'day Tranjanus,

Can't say much about non hexed based approach to movement but our little group play with miniatures and use single stands. We use our 15mm DBA based figs and when casualties are inflicted use an appropriately colored D6 die per stand as a wound counter (red for heavy, blue for mediums and green for lights). We play on the C&C boards so still use the hex based approach. Some blokes use 28mm figs and have those fancy mats with grids on them.

I did see someone on the internet that just drew dots on a game board/mat to indicate where the boundary of the hexes were so that may be an approach for you without all the hexes.

Hope that helps. We rather enjoy C&C (esp. Epic) – its a great game.

cheers

I think it is such an interesting game that I actually prefer using the blocks. I particularly like "Epic" because of the courier deck, which takes some of the luck out of the game.

I played it solo with the blocks non-hex movement. When I first got into the game, I got hooked on and stuck in the hex movement. I did not like the small hexes (2") of the board so Extra Crispy clued me in on a way to create my own board (cloth with dots per WasAdamsg01, actually) based on 4" hexes. That way I can use attack column or line within the 4" hexes. After going through creating a cloth with 4" hexes, I sat back and relaxed and realized that the hexes are just simplifying the movement. 4" hexes mean 4" multiples for movement and ranges. I played the solo game with a tape measure and it went fine. If you just use some logic in figuring base sizes for you miniatures and keep in mind how the rules use different number of blocks for the various units, it is easy. Keep bases consistent on for all armies. Don't get stuck in the hexes. There is a way out of the mire.

I played Richard Borg in a game back before the system had been published. It was Talavera. We used 25mm castings. All of his play testing that I have seen, at some point has used miniatures.
He used the same rules for both.

Try using 1 hex = 6", so a move of 2 = 12" and so on.

We use 6mm figures on Kalistra hexes. For Napoleonics and even Ancients.

C&C works so nicely as it is that i can't see any point in removing the hexes . i agree that using miniatures on bases to replace the blocks makes it look very nice .

I like that Kalistra option, very much a 3D version of the original game!

6mm figs on 20mm square bases.
