Greetings all, I'm writing a skirmish ruleset for the first Chechen war and I've seen quite a few images of Russian soldiers in blue/grey camo: Was this a specific type of unit, or were they commanders, or was it just a mixed bag of uniforms at that stage or what? Thanks. Some examples:

I suspect it the Russian equivalent of 'Urban' cammo, used to see that sort of colour mix on a lot on trendy street clothes. |

it is an Urban camo mostly issued to border guards but available to other units. Chechnya saw a lot of troops dressed and equipped in a haphazard manner. Fatman |

As noted, it is just an urban camo pattern. I think it is just a case of guys wearing whatever they could get. |

They drew in lots of partial units and cross posted police border guards and various army units too……the footage on YouTube shows lots of haphazard uniforms and combinations! |

Its not an urban camo its MVD (internal security troop) issued uniform |

Thanks for that. Not being difficult, but was it issued as an urban camo? The colors had to be chosen for a reason. |

Thanks for the replies – I suspected it was something along these lines |

This is the camouflage of the OMON (SWAT). It's called "Kamysh" (Reeds). There are gray (city) and green colors. |
