Finally got my Waterloo game all up and running at DundraCon 2018 this year. With over 4,500 28mm miniatures on an 8 foot by 18 foot table it was the largest game I've put on or played in. Had 10 players total and we used my Empires at War rules. Game was concluded in 12 hours (ha, longer than the actual battle!). Tons of pictures on my blog here: link Some pictures to get your started …
That is just a small number of the pictures. Fun was had by all despite the time it took to play to conclusion – I was wiped out, but I really enjoyed myself. One for the history books for me. Regards, Jay |

Wonderful eye candy! Fantastic looking table and some excellently painted figures! Did you somehow hinder the French? In the three games we played they won every game quite handily. |

Yes and no. The Guard corps couldn't move for the first two turns (nothing crazy there). The Prussians started to arrive on turn 3 which puts a lot of pressure on the French right flank. Hougoumont was 25 VPs, La Haye Sainte 15 VPs, and Papelotte 10 VPs. Other VPs totaled for regular conditions (e.g. destroyed units). The dispositions of troops for both sides left all commanders with tough decisions to make as to how to best approach their objectives. While the French have the numbers they also suffer more casualties on the attack. The way we did the farms (control zones) meant only a limited number of units could be fed into the "meat grinders" (farms) at a time and they tended to sway back-and-forth in control. La Haye Sainte changed hands several times until I got the Guard Grenadiers up and they charged in and cleaned it out (French ended with control of La Haye Sainte). We even captured Papelotte for a short time near the end … but the Prussians pushed us out. Hougoumont was every bit the meat grinder/distraction/sink hole that is was in the actual battle. Every time the French got in the Anglo-Allies reinforced and pushed us out. The French cavalry committed a little too late in the game through narrow lanes … better planning on the advance with the infantry would have made it easier to engage the cavalry earlier. Part of it is the rule system we play as well. In fact, I was really pleased with the rules. Everyone picked them up quickly and they provided the experience of play that I intended. It was a close run thing – which always makes for the best wargames IMO. |

Do follow the link to see nearly 166 photos which are full size and quite superb. The low angle on some looks so realistic. One picture of a British firing line could be straight from Sergei B's Waterloo (1970). My only worry is the ethics of this. How many teddy bears were sacrificed to make all this amazing scenery? If the loony radical activists see this……beware! |

What a stunningly beautiful game. I'm so annoyed at myself for a) not realizing DunDraCon was happening and b) not coming by as it's just up the road. Next year! |

Went through the photos first time, they are amazing! I will go through again later so I can view in detail. I do not do anything related to Napoleonic gaming but I think I have to get that band now. |

Thanks Jay! In most of our games the French pounded La Haye Sainte into rubble then took it. Hougoumont was pretty much impossible to take, but Papelotte was pretty easy actually. We actually had a 4x4' section for the Prussians to try and take Plancenoit, which was virtually impossible once the YG and LGC had showed up. Von Bulow's corp being made up on 2/3's Landwehr, I know I painted them all. Possibly if we limit as you did the number of troops allowed to attack a building group? We also allocated points for holding certain sections of the ridge. But the overwhelming French HC coupled with Guard just ran everything over. I would have loved to have been there! |

Awesome game. How do you reach the center of an 8 foot wide table to move your troops. |

@deadhead --- lol … let's just say Build O Bear workshop might be running low on supplies for a while ;-) @wrgmr1 – the limiting of units that can attack a "zone" of a farm throws a wrench into things for sure. I skipped Plancenoit – would have liked to bunch just too much going on to cover it. :-) @14th NJ Vol >> how do you reach the middle? Like this :-)

Fantastic stuff. Those are some very enterprising vendors selling their wares in the middle of Hougoumont! |
