I have recently dug out some unpainted Perry figures which I bought more than 5 years ago for a project that was postponed (don't judge me!) and noticed that some of the older metals have partly discoloured. They have some areas which have turned a brownish colour. The areas don't feel any different and only affect parts of the miniature, not the whole thing. They definitely weren't like it when I bought them and some figures in the same box aren't affected at all. Any ideas what it is and what causes this? |

Probably the metal was too hot when they were poured, and some of the alloy separated out near the surface and later oxidized (sometimes the colors are bluish/purpleish.) A good cleaning & priming before painting should hide those "birth marks"… ;-) |

I've seen that with new Perry figures shipped direct. It doesn't wash off, but it didn't affect the final result, either. |

It's a thin oxide layer. Nothing to worry about. |
