We are doing something very big, with something very small.

The Wargaming Company provides ESR Second Edition for grand tactical Napoleonics, ESR Campaign Guides that offer both fantastic uniform painting guides and linked historical scenarios, but now we are filling the gap by introducing ESR Napoleonics Box Sets.

With flags and figures, at 1:160 scale (10mm), with bases for 1" = 150 yards. We're here to provide practically everything you need but paint…

The Core Box Sets include an entire corps worth of troops, with bases, with flags, with generals, with support vehicles. You can paint up and assemble an ESR Core Box Set and you're ready to meet your friend for a game of ESR Napoleonics!

And if you want to get your feet wet first, if you want to split a box with your pal, if you know full well your pal won't get his own box until he's played so you need both sides?

We also offer ESR Core Starter Boxes that provide enough troops for both sides to get on the tabletop for both 1809 and 1812!

If you find Napoleonics daunting, or the hunt to assemble all the different pieces inconvenient – we're here to fix that for you!

More to come! In the coming days and weeks you'll also see Attachment Packs that include everything you need to build additional divisions and brigades you can attach to your Force, things like cuirassier divisions, corps artillery reserves, and hussar brigades!

Metal or platic?

The Wargaming Company19 Feb 2018 7:07 a.m. PST

The figures are all cast in white metal and the flags are all original artwork and provided pre-printed at high resolution, scaled for the flag staves of the figures.

Understand the focus is to support new to the Hobby…
But is would be great to know Current fig mfg? and if so who?
If not, is the mfg new one or an old one that had gone out of business?
This would be helpful for those , who are not starting from scratch, that have an existing collection base of troops.

Wargamorium19 Feb 2018 8:25 a.m. PST

A great initiative. Best of luck with this venture.

Puddinhead Johnson19 Feb 2018 10:46 a.m. PST

Photos of the miniatures included in the box would be nice.

What's the "reformation area" marker look like?

M C MonkeyDew19 Feb 2018 10:53 a.m. PST

Not my scale but armies in a box are always a great thing to see on the market.

Best of luck with the venture.

marshalGreg – We are working with an existing manufacturer, that will be more transparent as we get closer to our target shipment date. Our ESR Box Sets will include both sculpts from their existing line as well as new sculpts developed because of our ESR Box Sets.

Wargamorium – Thank you!

Puddinhead Johnson – We do have a couple photos online presently in our online store and will continue to add more as we are able (I'm posting a couple here as well, these two are of the Austrian ArmeeKorps). You can see the caisson being used as a Reformation Area toward the back of these photos. We'll try and make sure there are some better ones available in the near future.

M C MonkeyDew – Thank you, we're trying to make Napoleonics more coherent and lower some of the hurdles to getting into the period!

jambo1 – Thanks and here are some shots of the figures!

Very Nice!

Hope it all goes well!
10mm are becoming a significant size used for Napoleonic play, so it should be good!

senormeek Inactive Member19 Feb 2018 1:19 p.m. PST

Great idea. Am keen for 10mm to get a greater following in Napoleonics. It's the future! Helping people get started is definitely a good way to go.

Looks like Magister Militum are providing the figures then…

Senormeek has it I think – the proportions and distinctive officer's swords being the first hints.
I too am keen for 10mm to expand. Keen to see the attachment packs.

JimDuncanUK19 Feb 2018 2:14 p.m. PST

Just how many figures per box?

The Wargaming Company19 Feb 2018 2:47 p.m. PST

JimDuncanUK – The ESR Box Sets we announced today have between 240 and 280-odd figures including vehicles, cavalry, artillery, etc…, plus bases, plus flags. Total number of figures as well as number of different types of Units are all listed in the descriptions on our online store.

JimDuncanUK19 Feb 2018 2:53 p.m. PST

TWC – Thanks

Super, like the figures they look the part, like the whole idea, good stuff.

The Wargaming Company21 Feb 2018 9:18 a.m. PST

As promised, today we are introducing Austrian and Russian ESR Attachment Packs!

Each one is an entire ESR Formation complete with Commander, Reformation Area, and Units with bases and flags!

These Attachment Packs are specifically designed to let players customize the Forces they build from ESR Core Box Sets so that their Force is best arranged for its historical scenario and mission.

Attach a cuirassier division for battlefield shock, or an artillery reserve to give your defense some additional staying power. From an Austrian Avant Garde for 1809 to a Russian Militia Detachment for 1812, we've got you covered!

Excellent idea. If I didn't have a lot of 6mm armies, I'd be all over these items.

Shakespear21 Feb 2018 1:25 p.m. PST

I came here to ask what you guys thought of the "Et sans r้sultat! " rules?

DaleWill Supporting Member of TMP21 Feb 2018 6:47 p.m. PST

Shakespear – I really like them. They are my go to Napoleonic rules.

GlacierMI22 Feb 2018 2:44 a.m. PST

Hello, my OCD is kicking in, never a good sign..

Will Preorder price be different than release price? as I would really like to look over the miniatures first.

The Wargaming Company22 Feb 2018 6:58 a.m. PST

Will Preorder price be different than release price?

We aren't advertising the pre-order as any sort of 'special deal' or 'introductory offer' no.

as I would really like to look over the miniatures first.

Very understandable. We will be continuing to post additional photos on the product pages of our online store as we are able. Additionally, we will be showing off the figures at all the conventions we attend.

Shakspear. I hosted a game for my group recently and everybody liked the rules and wants to play them again. Main things to bear in mind:

They are grand tactical so no changing formation at unit level
Steepish learning curve as they are unlike other rulesets
Very helpful and responsive rules writer
We played with my 25mm armies but I think you get better figure density with a smaller scale 10mm would be great

Are there any sample images you have posted somewhere. I might be interested in buying one or two of these guides eventually. The price is a bit high but the if the images are excellent quality might be worth my money.

Are there any sample images you have posted somewhere. I might be interested in buying one or two of these guides eventually. The price is a bit high but the if the images are excellent quality might be worth my money.

Our ESR Campaign Guides have quite a few sample images posted on our website of both the included maps and of the literally hundreds of uniform plates per book.

If you visit the ESR Campaign Guides page of our website, click on Learn More for whichever campaign interests you. Within the campaign, the 'Scenarios' tab includes samples of the maps and the 'Uniforms' tab contains samples of the uniforms along with a list of the Units which have their uniforms included in the Campaign Guide.

There are additional sample images included on the product page of each of our ESR Campaign Guides in our online store.

Each ESR Campaign Guides contains three maps for each historical scenario included – one detailing the French dispositions, one detailing their opponents' dispositions, and one detailing both for the game host. These maps reflect what the different Armies knew at the onset of the battle. Each Campaign Guide offers nine or more historical scenarios for one or two related campaigns. The Campaign Guides also include uniform plates for nearly every Unit involved in any of the scenarios, generally numbering between six and eight hundred images. However, We shall meet in Vienna, 1813 in Germany contains over 1500 uniform plates.

Our ESR Campaign Guides are rather extensive as we try to offer a significant value.
