Now that Ebay has announced they are dropping Paypal for Ayden, what do you think you'll do? Switch to Ayden? Add it to your payment accounts? Go back to pelts and beads?

Cacique Caribe18 Feb 2018 8:22 p.m. PST

Oh great. This is the first I hear about this.

IMHO Pyapal is a very good money transfer agent which I use for many things besides eBay. Like CC this is the first I have heard of this. Where is the information about this? I don't know what Ayden even is. Really would prefer not to have to use an alternative for eBay.

News to me as well. I really don't want to add another money service to my list of accounts.

PayPal will be able to be used on eBay thought 2023 at least.

And, since the individual seller has pretty much disappeared fromEbay, I don't even use it very often. I find it be more cost effective to buy directly from the manufacturer for most of my hobby needs.

Bashytubits18 Feb 2018 9:57 p.m. PST

I do not even use e bay anymore. Paypal works fine for me and folks who pick up things from me. Their policies and generally unhelpful demeanor guarantee I will stay away.

attilathepun4718 Feb 2018 10:12 p.m. PST

Pelts & beads for me.

A heavy conversation was had on TMP last week about this.
Plus my understanding emails were sent out from eBay on Feb 01 of the announcement.

Dear eBay Seller,

eBay is happy to announce plans to further improve the customer experience by intermediating payments on our Marketplace platform. In doing so, eBay will manage the payments flow, simplifying the end-to-end experience for both buyers and sellers. We have signed an agreement with Adyen, a leading global payments processor, to become our primary payments processing partner. PayPal, a long-time eBay partner, will be a payments option at checkout for eBay buyers.

You do not need to take any action at this time. The transition to full payments intermediation will be a multi-year journey.

Over the past three years, eBay has transformed its business to drive the best choice, most relevance and most powerful selling platform. Building out our payments capabilities is the next step in that strategy.

Payments intermediation will bring significant benefits for eBay sellers. You can expect a simplified pricing structure, more predictable access to funds, and most sellers can expect their costs of payments processing to be reduced. We're also working on ways to provide sellers a central place to track and manage their business, which can soon include payments information.

By offering buyers more choice in how they pay and expanding payment options into more geographies, eBay believes sellers will be able to reach more buyers and improve conversion.

The transition to full payments intermediation will be a multi-year journey. eBay will begin intermediation on a small scale in North America starting in the second half of 2018, expanding in 2019 under the terms of the Operating Agreement with PayPal. In 2021, we expect to have transitioned a majority of Marketplace customers to the new payments experience.

Again, you do not need to take any action at this time. As eBay gets closer to the initial phase of its intermediation efforts, we will share more details about this process and next steps for sellers. In the meantime, please read the eBay Inc announcement for further information. For any immediate questions or to share feedback, please email paymentsinfo@ebay.com.

We're looking forward to what's next, and to getting there with you.

As always, thank you for selling on eBay.

So there no change and no issue.

Knowledge is power.

rustymusket19 Feb 2018 6:12 a.m. PST

I don't do much Ebay purchasing but I have learned to be comfortable with Paypal. I guess I just do not like change. Not a good world to live in when I am that way. I guess I will get used to whatever I need to get used to (and ask my kids to help me with what I cannot get used to).

True Paypal will be an option…for a while. But this is the mark of entry in to that market. And I see a lot of TV ads for another new app, Zelle.

These days I find kids don't have Paypal and won't sign up for it: Venmo is the standard with teenagers around here. I think Paypal has that "Facebook stink" of being for old people.

Up til now Ebay powered everyone having a Paypal account. Eventually Paypal won't be an option on Ebay I'm thinking.

What I find interesting is that eBay owned PayPal from 2002 til 2015 when they spun it off

Must be they have found a cheaper alternative to make money or after spinning it off they found they lost a revenue stream they want back

D6 Junkie19 Feb 2018 6:53 a.m. PST

Sticking with paypal. Rarely use ebay anymore

robert piepenbrink Supporting Member of TMP19 Feb 2018 8:13 a.m. PST

Can't remember the last eBay purchase. I suppose I'll have to think it through when I really want something on eBay and they flat refuse to take PayPal. But considering I got PayPal to make eBay happy, I am not best pleased.

I just used PayPal … I like it … Some if do used eBay, which is rare anymore … I guess I'll have to adapt. frown But since I can used it until 2023(?) … hell I could be dead by then !

I've lost interest in Ebay since they decided to focus on being a retail outfit instead of a large flea market. I still use PayPal for a lot of purchases.

I bet if you looked back when PayPal was first being used you'd see this same discussion just with different vendor names.

farnox19 Feb 2018 12:20 p.m. PST

It would be nice to see a new Ebay emerge that goes back to the roots of what Ebay started out as. I don't use it much since the retail sellers took over.

Only look at Ebay for pricing info on REAL antiques -
and then only if the seller can provide good validation
as to the provenance of a given piece.

Probably half of the items I look into are repro's,
half of the remainder are marginal.

For buying, I do go to Etsy, but not much of that,
either.

WHAT? EBay is still in existence? Thought they dried up and blew away a long time ago.

At least it has for the things I used to buy on it [painted figures].

whatever.

I just bought a new optivisor on eBay, and paid with PayPal. But then, I'm an old guy, and don't care what's hip or trendy or new. Or shiny, as the kids say.

If e-Bay refuses to accept PayPal, they will lose a lot of business -- including mine. I still shop there for mini's, but I've learned to shop more carefully. I can often get gaming books on Amazon.com, for less money, and no bidding… Quite often, the used books on Amazon are in better condition, for less money.

I've also discovered that I can often get figures off of Amazon for less money, as well. Only exception is deliveries from Hong Kong, and Ukraine, listed on e-Bay. They are still the lowest priced sellers, bar none, for the plastic figures I like. Cheers!
