Since I do big games and use lots of floor space I needed flight stands I could move around a floor space, that would carry a group of six units and that I break down for travel. With the help of Corsec Engineer's fine products this is what I came up with, step by step.

picture

A piece of PVC scrap from the plastic supply store and a piece of plumbing. Glued together. Either PVC cement or simple super glue. The interior of the pipe fitting needs to be trimmed down a little.

I had a sheet of cheap 3/4 inch plywood cut into squares a drilled a hole in the center. This fits right over the PVC assembly. Into the pipe fitting I slide a piece of 3/4 in OD acrylic tubing. I put a couple of pounds of buck shot in the bottom of the tubing to give the stand some weight at the base. I use wooden plugs to control the placement of the buckshot, pour in more superglue to make it more of a solid mass.

A piece of fabric scrap hides the base and makes it less conspicuous.

In the top of the Tube I put an assembly made of 1/4 inch acrylic strips and various pieces of acrylic rod. One rod fits into the tube, others hold the three pieces of the top portion together. I also used the rod sections to give strong attachment points for the Corsec omni-stands. I took cheap clear plates from the dollar store and drilled a hole in the center. I put these on each attachment point. This way when bugs melee with flyers they can be put right one the miniature they are attacking. It also gives a good place to put damage markers.

I keep toying with the idea of doing something like this for Star Fleet Battles and those one or two foot long enterprise and D7 models. A place to play being the problem, perhaps renting an indoor basketball court would do.
