I am looking for any suggestions for WW1 (early war 1914-1915)rules. Interested in battalion to division size games.

Thanks for the help.

Two sets spring to mind. "Oh What A Lovely War" from Irregular Miniatures. 1 page of really simple rules that work very well, and "Great War Spearhead II". Both use 1 base as a company, around 4 bases for a battalion, usually 4 battalions to a division + support. GWSII has full ob for the different nations included

Is there a rules set out there where 4-5 stands is a company and 20 or so for a battalion?

Rxpjks1, Battles for Brusilov was a ruleset that sounds up your alley. I think it has basing something like that. It was very similar to Fire and Fury. There is also a free set called Fields of Flanders or something like that.

Great War Spearhead looks like a good set, I owned it but never played. I use a home brew set called Take Action that is played by the HAWKS group at the HMGS conventions. It's one page front and back and can support a division easily. Battalions are 4 stands with a HQ stand and an optional HMG stand.

Field of Battle WWI. We have used it to fight early Eastern front battles. 3 or 4 stands is a battalion. We had a corps of Russians fighting a Division of Germans. Plus some Russian Cav and artillery. We enjoyed it. It's available as a pdf.

Crow Bait I looked on the Irregular minis website but did not see the rules. Point me in the right direction.

Thanks

Ok, I looked and found it under the 15mm, 1870-1918 section, under the armies section. It is a battle pack with 2 armies of your choice. 96 inf, 6 mg, 8 arty w/crew, for 40 GBP.Sorry, I did not remember ordering it as part of a pack, but it makes sense as my WWI armies are made up of Irregular and Lanchaster. Ian is a great guy to order from, and he is willing to work with you. If you order something from him, I am sure he will send you a copy if you ask.

'Is there a rules set out there where 4-5 stands is a company and 20 or so for a battalion?'

Over the Top uses platoon sized bases, so battalions have around 20 stands.

I agree with Crow Bait. Ian is very helpful and I am sure he would be only too glad to help with a copy of the rules standalone.

I would recommend World War I Rules Rapid Fire Rules Adaptations. Hope it helps.

As always, comments are appreciated.

Take care

4 battalions to a division? Surely that can't be right? Or am I missing something in the scale?
