It's odd how they make it 'more real' somehow:

The international band of brothers who joined forces to fight Franco's fascists: Colourised images show volunteers including British and US troops who fought in Spain's civil war
The images show members of the famous International Brigade, which counted literary stars such as George Orwell, Ernest Hemmingway and Laurie Lee as members
The colourised photos are all the work of Doug Banks, who painstakingly brought the images up to date
During the 1930s, more than 2,000 British workers were recruited into the International Brigade

Yep, thanks for sharing these photos! The colorization really does bring them to life.

Excellent pictures with well researched captions – a little unsettling to see something on this quality in the Mail ;-)

Amazing work on the images – some almost look like modern re-enactor photos. The captions…well some seem spot on but others a bit confused, especially between battalions and brigades. For instance Canadian MacKenzie-Papineau Battalion volunteers find themselves part of the "Brigade Abraham Lincoln"

I also enjoyed the comments section – for laughs! Especially the complete fantasist who claims "40,000 british volunteers…fought in the spanish Civil War on the nationalist side" but somehow that has been covered up.

I'll take a beheading over a hanging or a burning at the stake any day….
