EW can exclusively report that Titan Books and Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products have teamed up to publish an original range of new fiction tying in to Joss Whedon's beloved but short-lived TV series Firefly. The books will be official titles within the Firefly canon, with Whedon serving as consulting editor. The first book is due in the fall.

Don't care, bring back the show.

Have to say that a reboot of the show is my preference as well.

Zinkala09 Feb 2018 2:05 p.m. PST

I don't usually like reboots but to get more Firefly I might make an exception.

Stryderg09 Feb 2018 3:26 p.m. PST

Instead of a reboot, I would prefer a spin off. I know and love the current/old characters and don't want to see new faces portraying them. A second ship with a different crew and their own sets of problems would do it for me. They could even show up right before/after scenes from the original series.

Serenity was bad enough. Leave well enough alone.

Agreed. Spinoff with a different crew of "traders" in that same universe.

Nvdoyle, that is a bit harsh. I would love to see a spin off. A new series 20 years later. Could weave in old crew with the new crew.

I agree with nvdoyle on Serenity. For me, IDNH. If they made a new series, I'd suggest just ignoring the movie events as apocryphal, or doing a "before the film" series with the old cast. But alas, with the death of Ron Glass, that in between series is out of the picture.

Doing 20 years later, you could get away with Mal and crew, minus two, and an adult addition…the grown child of Zoe and Wash (or fudge the dates, and a teen/preteen child and call it less than 20 years after).

You can drop the Reavers (never really liked that element anyway), bring back the Blue Hands Group, and throw in a surprising element from Book's past (maybe he *was* a grandpa, after all).

Not sure what to do with River and Simon, Kaylee, Jayne… I'd love to play with Mal's statement to Inara "Can you imagine? Me with a passel of youngun's underfoot?"

But kids all over the place risks the Crusher curse.

Maybe the less change, the better.

Books (and graphic novels) at least allow for the immediate aftermath of the film, or even the before-the-film, never-made tv season stories fans are really longing for.
